I know how to connect the LED pilot lights to show the status of Mains (Eskom) and Solar (Inverter). I already have them installed, but I want to add pilot lights to show which source is supplying power to the load via the transfer switch. I thought of doing it according to the drawing below because the neutrals are not crossing (two separate neutrals - inverter requirement). But I'm afraid that; 1.) this way might cause the neutrals (now) to cross, and 2.) both LEDS are going to "shine" at the same time anyway because each one is going to have a neutral and a Live fed (even when not switched). Please advise if this will be possible and how? Thanks so much

I am using a CBI Astute Smart Controller to switch on a pump that irrigates my garden from my JoJo tanks. I am well versed in IT and networking, but home automation is something I am just starting out with. i had the electrician install the ASC, connect it to the pump etc. I can now use the CBI home App to switch the irrigation on and off from my phone. So this proves to me that the App is seeing the ASC, and controlling it correctly. I can also use the countdown function on the app to start the pump in x minutes or hours. This proves to me that the App is handling this function, and sends a delayed “On” instruction to the switch at the appointed time.…

Hi I'm doing a lot of work around my house and am busy in the garden at the moment. I have buried a 110mm sewerage pipe around the perimeter of my garden, with a opening every 6m. I want to use this pipe as a sleeve for the irrigation pipe that runs from the borehole to the Jojo etc. I am also looking at putting in electrical cable for irrigation valves and maybe lighting on the fence. What type of cable is needed and allowed. 220v or lower voltage? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Revov to Victron comms I have a 2 X 5 Kva Victron setup with a Revov battery. 48 V 200A. It has a BMS48150 monitor but there are no comms cable to the Victron Colour control. Can I use a BYD to Victron cable. Also - if someone has a system, what are your settings?

I have an inverex mks 5kva and I tried connecting it to my laptop via ethernet cable and downloaded mpptracker in my laptop but nothing showed up on my screen. Do I have to do some settings? The communication cable came with the inverter had an rs232 port on one side and LAN port on the other (picture of which is attached below) and I did not have rs232 port in my laptop so I had to use an ethernet cable to connect my inverter to the laptop.

I have a small dedicated room where I'll be installing my inverters. If I use flat-twin-earth cable to connect the inverters with the DB's and main house DB, does it still need to be in trunking inside this room? Seems very unnecesarry as it is allready double insulated.

I found 3 (Installed) RCD`s in a week that does not break the neutral conductor when it (test) trip or even when switched of manually. according to SANS 10142 the RCD should break both conductors in a single phase sistem. With power off and using the bell, the neutral does break. I found this problem in 3 different houses with all 3 have new installations. Should the neutral also break or should it stay on to ensure a connection toe the Eskom star point?

I have this board laying around. Used it to program 2 way radios. And this type of connector.... I have connected, DB9 Pin2 (RD) to CP2102 TXD DB9 Pin3 (TD) to CP2102 RXD DB9 Pin5 (Ground) to CP2102 GND Solar Assistant finds the CP2012 But gives a CRC error. Should I connect the RTS and CTS pins? And lastly, Where should the jumper be on the CP2102? 3.3v or 5v?

Friends of mine have a Sunsynk installation with a 12 x 550 W (Imax < 16 A, Voc < 700 V @ 0 degC) panel string. The installation is working well, as per expectation, but the fuse holder is running hot (~40 degC). The fuse holder is an Inge, rated at 1000 V, 32 A. The fuse is a 20 A fuse protecting a 6 mm2 cable. We've double, tripple, fourdouble-checked all the connections; there's no loose connection. Anyone else with experience of fuse holders warmer than expected? Most I've seen are running at 2-5 degC above ambient, which I expect due to the internal resistance of the fuse holder itself. But the 40 degC we see here is close to 15-20 degC above ambient…

I was always under impression that ac and dc must be seperated, but is that still the case with todays quality of insulation on cables. Okay, the subject was a little dramatic but I am needing some eyes on this system plan to advise what looks wrong, and help with a few queries. Anything that immediately jumps out as an issue? Yes, I am using a fuse holder as a busbar as it works out cheaper (strangely!). Batteries are lead acid, 200ah at 48v. Eventually they'll be replaced with lithium. Questions: 1. Given the output of the panels, do I even need fuses between the MPPT and battery busbar? My (perhaps mistaken) understanding is that the fuse protects the cable. As per the title, what am I overlooking here? I have three series strings of panels each connected to their own Victron MPPT. I need to connect these to my 48v battery bank, so my thinking was a busbar/fuse holder/lynx. Considering price, and my system not being massive, I was leaning towards a fuse holder on the +ve and a busbar on the -ve. This is where I got confused! The Victron Busbar 250A 6P goes for around R900 while the Victron Fuse holder 6-way for Mega-fuse 250A goes for around R500. Why? I'd expect the fuse holder to be more expensive. Hi everyone! ☀️ I have an 8 x 550-watt solar panel system with two strings. Last year, I installed PV cables with 2.5 mm electrical cables. So far, everything has been working fine, but recently, load shedding in Zambia has gotten worse, with almost 24 hours of no power. 😫 I'm relying on solar power and batteries, but some of them are starting to give out in the early mornings. 🆘 I need to replace the PV cables to reduce power loss from the panels to my Luxpower inverter. Hi Guys What is typically the wiring sizes used in house wiring and DB wiring? 1) The size of wiring used in light and plug fittings 2) The size of the wiring used in DB for stuff like geyser and oven. 3) What is the best way to bridge wiring on DB circuit breakers when using the thick wiring (geyser/oven) when you need two of the thick wires into one CB or even busbar+thick wire? Best practice, what is safe and what not, etc. Is there a limit (regulations) on how much stripped wire can stick out above the CB, etc. Just need to confirm based on what I have seen in my DB.

Hi guys Need a little help in calculating the bus-bar size for a project. (See image attached) 9 x 15000kva Victron Qautro's 4 x 450/200 MPPTs 3 x 60/48 Freedom Won Batteries. 1000A Discharge The red line is the busbar. Dark Blue Freedom Won Batteries Light Blue/Cyan Inverters Green MPPTs We calculated that a 1000A busbar will do the job but going with 1200A for safety. Hi Guys please can i have your opinion in running DC volts through armored cable. Copper and aluminum. To be used to connect solar panels to inverter. 150m distance. 800v Some say that in armored cable induction will cause the insulation to deteriorate and short and burn after a while. Also more voltage drop in armored cable. thanks
