Hi Guys

I will really appreciate it if the forum members could give me an idea on how many of you are currently interested in HA-02's or 2*HA-02's.

As I do this as a non-profit service to forum members, I would like to place an order more or less for the correct quantities. The Chinese will stop "suiping" on Monday and I would be able to get the order going.

I just need to get an estimate of the current intrest as I am prepared to carry a certain level of stock for the members

I have 16 x 170ahr Lead Crystal batteries, wired 48v (4 banks of 4 batteries), connected to 2 x Axperts.

How many of these balancers would I need and what will the costs be?

You would require 4 x Ha-02's or 2 x 2-HA02's minimum requirement ( Four batteries per unit )

TTT has a different configuration in mind which will require 2 extra units, but the choice is yours. ebrsa is currently testing TTT configuration and we will shortly know whether it is working better.

HA-02 = R695 + vat and 2*HA-02 = R1490 + Vat

If you require courier services we could arrange for you for R75.00 next day anywhere in South Africa

Where can I get more info or specs as I have no clue how these work. Please advise.

For parallel strings u can use 1 x HA-02 and fuse the lines between the batteries and the HA-02 as per the attached image. The image only shows 3 strings, but you just add another set of fuses and connect to the junctions (red dots in the image). Ensure that the battery cables / links between the batteries are all of the same type and equal length and ensure that the cables between the batteries and busbars are all of the same type and equal length to ensure that the resistance per string is equal.

My off-grid system on a farm in Limpopo as commissioned in September 2016 is as follows:

1. 6 x Enersol 255W panels in two strings of 3 each, installed at a 10% north facing angle.  

2. Microcare 3 String combiner box (currently using only 2 strings)

3. Axpert 5KVA inverter - Float at 54V, Bulk at 56.4V, cut-out at 48V, Max charging current 40Amps (being 13% of 300Ah). 

4. 8 x Omnipower 180 Batteries, which are actually 150Ah at C/10, giving me a 48V 300Ah system.

The Axpert reading was back at 54.0V when I got there mid-morning, but then the place has been standing idle for the past week with only the fridge-freezer running.  With the multimeter I measured the top 4 batteries which are easily accessible.  Nr 1 and 3 were around 12.5V and 2 and 4 were around 14.5V.

Could you give me an indication of cost and other requirements?  I'm based in Pretoria.

I would opt for 2 x HA-02's, although you could use one unit and do the wiring as per Supediy's instructions. I haven't had any feedback on this, but it should do the trick. I am not very fond of the excessive wiring, but that's my opinion.

The cost at the moment is R695.00 + vat. We are quite often in Pretoria and would be able to deliver if you are not in too much of a hurry. Else the courier cost for next day would be extra R75 + vat. I should have the new units in stock by mid next week. With Chinese holidays, they've got a bit off a backlog at the moment.

Quick question on the HA02, is it usual for the unit to make a slight high pitched whine?

Mine is dead silent.  No sound or heat at all!!  But no huge loads or charge rates so can't really discount it...

I know that sound very well.

Not saying the same is the case here, I am merely adding 2 cents of humour, so just saying I know it very well. 

Really. Last one was the Victron, 12-24 mix-up, made a pitched whine and then poof, smoke was released.

But I am sure it is not the case here. As long as you smiled though DB.

sounds like a capacitor, inside, is bust, or going bust. 

Many current limiters work that way, on overload you hear that high-pitched squeal. Last time I heard it was when I accidentally shorted the 12V supply on the canbus cable of my bluesolar 150/70. Thankfully nothing broke...

I just checked it now.,It's been connected overnight, wiring correct, not hot, battery soc looks normal, but still a high frequency whine.

Also, I checked the batteries before I connected and they were only 0.03V different, so not an out of balance situation?

The high frequency whine is sometimes caused by ringing in an inductor and should not be anything to worry about. The pitch and/or volume might change depending on how hard it has to work etc. etc. and depending on the design. Some people might not even hear it, others might, depending on the frequency and person and that is why some people might not have noticed it. My balancers are not connected yet, so I can't confirm if mine does the same.

Mine also has a high pitched whine, through a process of elimination is only when I connect the one specific connection, no overload there or the likes. Like you say it is very faint, and even gets less when I hand hold the unit, and it is not connected to the wall or lying on the table. I suspect the potting resin did not make it all the way through to all the components as intended, but functionally it performs well.

The potting resin will not prevent inductor ringing, it might dampen it a bit though. 

Hi Guys

I have checked the twining sound, which I also experience on my own balancers, with the suppliers. There answer was that it is quite normal?? I am not that technical and I suppose time will tell !

OK, thanks for the feedback guys. I checked again now and I can't discern a whine anymore (above the slight whine of the inverter at least!), so it seems all is well. It must have been working a bit harder when I first connected it up.
