High quality low wattage kettle

Featured Replies

Looking for a high quality inverter friendly kettle, made of glass or stainless steel. I found one I liked on Takealot made of glass but it was only 500ml and the boss was not impressed when she heard that, so it must be 1l or roundabouts.

I don't want a plastic one as they can leave a. nasty taste.

Just my 2 cents. The only thing you score is less current drawn but it takes longer to boil. I use an normal kettle, it uses 2kw but only for +-2 min.

Some people don't understand that you cannot run the kettle and microwave while blow drying your hair and ironing at the same time. The easiest thing to change is the kettle. For them to wait a bit longer for hot water is less of an issue than the inverter tripping.

Copper kettles are an integral part of many kitchens. Copper is an excellent conductor of heat, and water will boil faster in a copper kettle than in a glass or stainless steel kettle. You only need to use medium heat to boil water in a copper kettle. This saves time and energy, making copper more environmentally friendly than other materials. A copper kettle won't rust, and high-end kettles are rated to last 20 years or more depending on use.

Maybe something like this?

https://www.takealot.com/pineware-1500w-stainless-steel-kettle-silver/PLID52492801

I see a couple of larger kettles are now coming out with lower than normal power ratings, instead of 2000W-2500W, around 1500W.

What is the inverter rating? Because if the inverter can handle it, the 1.8l kettles could be a better choice for an office if folks don't mind waiting a bit longer for it to boil.

It's still not as low as the 1 litre kettles that have around 1100-1400W power.

Especially if you pair it with one of these:

And you get that initial LPG smell, reminds you of camping 😍

Then LS comes without a time table and cycle time is not know 😜😜

True.

But they are cheap enough to keep a full spare in the garage. Or you can try this method to check SoC:

  • Fill up a jug or bottle with warm tap water
  • Pour it down the side of the gas bottle
  • Wait 5 seconds
  • Using your hands, feel for a temperature change on the bottle.
  • The part that’s cold to touch will indicate how much gas is left. If it’s cold near the top – you’re ok. If it’s warm the whole way down…time to get a new bottle.

My inverter is rated at 2000w and it can handle my kettle and lights fine, but no more and if the fridge starts it overloads, so my options are perhaps turn the fridge off when the kettle is on with a smart scene, and re-enable it after. However I am wary to mess with the fridge as the geyser timers etc have once or twice had teething pains/cold showers due to my bunglings, and if i write off the contents of the fridge the boss will flay me.

Where do I get a copper kettle? I did some light googling and they seem to be antiques off antique shops etc.

0 Watts, and it whistles.

I recently "installed" one at my parent's house after they were complaining about no tea during loadshedding and it works great for them as they have a gas stove.

I expected the SOC of my 1.7kg battery to be getting lower. It took me 3 years to get to this discharge level.

I have just used a kitchen scale as the empty weight is printed on all gas cylinders AFAIK.

MY 1st try will be the same for larger gas bottles but use a bathroom scale. If weight is low I hold it while on the scale and just put it down to get my weight and subtract.

Kiss!!!!!

There is a new pink collapsible rubber traveling kettle available.  I would not consider it high quality but certainly low power.  I wish it was made from stainless steel or glass.  Pink silicone should rather be used for different toys.....

It is mains operated, rated at 600W but was measured as 720W by Bigclive who reports that it will boil 500ml in about 5 minutes.

Also, they don't understand that boiling one mug of water is faster than filling the kettle to the full 2L.
