October 7, 20223 yr Looking for a high quality inverter friendly kettle, made of glass or stainless steel. I found one I liked on Takealot made of glass but it was only 500ml and the boss was not impressed when she heard that, so it must be 1l or roundabouts. I don't want a plastic one as they can leave a. nasty taste.
October 7, 20223 yr Just my 2 cents. The only thing you score is less current drawn but it takes longer to boil. I use an normal kettle, it uses 2kw but only for +-2 min.
October 7, 20223 yr Another option - which we use in our house - is to use a single plate induction top with a standalone kettle. Induction is pretty efficient and you can also set the power.
October 7, 20223 yr I use this one: https://www.takealot.com/brk12-ecco-1-8l-1350-watts-cordless-glass-kettle/PLID70340006 1350W so a lower peak than the 2.5kW one I used to have. But as mentioned above, it takes longer. Quality is decent but not amazing, been using it for a year.

The easiest thing to change is the kettle. For them to wait a bit longer for hot water is less of an issue than the inverter tripping.

October 7, 20223 yr https://www.takealot.com/mellerware-travel-kettle/PLID17260023 I got this one. It has the advantage of being smaller too, so no more boiling of 2.5L of water for one cup of tea.
October 7, 20223 yr Copper kettles are an integral part of many kitchens. Copper is an excellent conductor of heat, and water will boil faster in a copper kettle than in a glass or stainless steel kettle. You only need to use medium heat to boil water in a copper kettle. This saves time and energy, making copper more environmentally friendly than other materials. A copper kettle won't rust, and high-end kettles are rated to last 20 years or more depending on use. signature 20 x 4.5 water filters - https://filterway.com/whole-house-systems/20-x-4-5-filtration-systems Edited October 10, 20223 yr by Gordons

What is the inverter rating? Because if the inverter can handle it, the 1.8l kettles could be a better choice for an office if folks don't mind waiting a bit longer for it to boil. It's still not as low as the 1 litre kettles that have around 1100-1400W power. https://www.takealot.com/galaxan-comet-mini-kettle/PLID69524300 https://www.takealot.com/mellerware-900ml-piccolo-mini-cordless-kettle-white/PLID36957259?gclid=Cj0KCQjwnP-ZBhDiARIsAH3FSReJmGujMxIDqjJFIbIPVuqPbgKiRug27O84xEkLpIj0AumO_-7clMcaAoW1EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds https://www.takealot.com/smeg-mini-kettle-0-8l/PLID73308184

Or you can try this method to check SoC: Fill up a jug or bottle with warm tap water Pour it down the side of the gas bottle Wait 5 seconds Using your hands, feel for a temperature change on the bottle. The part that’s cold to touch will indicate how much gas is left. If it’s cold near the top – you’re ok. If it’s warm the whole way down…time to get a new bottle. My inverter is rated at 2000w and it can handle my kettle and lights fine, but no more and if the fridge starts it overloads, so my options are perhaps turn the fridge off when the kettle is on with a smart scene, and re-enable it after. However I am wary to mess with the fridge as the geyser timers etc have once or twice had teething pains/cold showers due to my bunglings, and if i write off the contents of the fridge the boss will flay me.

I expected the SOC of my 1.7kg battery to be getting lower. It took me 3 years to get to this discharge level. I have just used a kitchen scale as the empty weight is printed on all gas cylinders AFAIK. MY 1st try will be the same for larger gas bottles but use a bathroom scale. If weight is low I hold it while on the scale and just put it down to get my weight and subtract. Kiss!!!!!
July 6, 20232 yr There is a new pink collapsible rubber traveling kettle available. I would not consider it high quality but certainly low power. I wish it was made from stainless steel or glass. Pink silicone should rather be used for different toys..... It is mains operated, rated at 600W but was measured as 720W by Bigclive who reports that it will boil 500ml in about 5 minutes. January 25, 20242 yr This Philips 0.8L 900W Mini-Kettle seems perfect... can make 3 normal cups of coffee or possibly 4 smaller cups. https://www.philips.co.za/c-p/HD4619_20/mini-kettle Only problem is I cannot source it from any South African shops, even though it is listed on the Philips SA website???
