Want to share your story?

Where to begin. Used an installer that my folks & brother had used for their installation. All was workjng fine with mine until the battery wasn't charging properly. Turns out I needed a BMS cable. According to my installer it was settings issue. Got another installer in & he started to point out all the issues. From there, it has been noticed that original installer charged me for items he never installed including surge protection, changeover switch & 2 combiner boxes (he put ac & dc together in a 8w db box), wires weren't connected properly & no earthing was done. When doing further investigations, he used same COC certificate for both my brother & myself with so many other issues. Getting AIA involved, but not sure if it will be worth the extra costs cause I do not see myself getting anything back from this guy. Doesn't even have legit business

Remember we need feedback on the performance of the Solis S6 inverter and some pics once installed. Congratulations.

Have an existing 8kw Sunsynk and three Hubble AM2's and 19 x 455 watt solar panels, any guidance to get them to work together? Using the inverters aux port? Which one as primary?

Planning on getting 3 more Hubble AM2's. Couldn't of come at a better time was just planning on getting another 8kw Sunsynk and running them in parallel.

Give Steve a call tomorrow, he can tell you about the AC coupling and frequency shifting features of the Solis, it should complement your setup quite well.

That's so sad, sounds like you are fortunate to be alive, and this from trusted personal referrals. I hope that your folks and brother have had their systems reviewed too.

I hope that forumites will benefit from your experience, and use it to properly vet potential installers. It's not good enough to just get a word of mouth referral from a layperson, I would strongly suggest that people actually do physical visits of reference sites, inspect everything and ask to see the paperwork, before committing a deposit.

@Candice

Would you be comfortable to pm me a copy of both the COC'S yours and your brother's, clear pictures of both will suffice as i want to take it up with ECB( Electrical Conformance Board) these type of atrocities must be stopped in the electrical industry. This matter will be treated in confidence.

Good on you @TaliaB. I'm not an electrician, but I've been this route. I moved into a house and multiple problems were found one by one. Plugs not wired to the DB but to the geyser and on the geyser's breaker. Cables that were not rated as highly as the breaker they were connected to. Bad wiring for the swimming pool's DB. Etc.

After a few of these had been uncovered, the electrician who had been in the house a lot the last couple of years called to introduce himself and to try to smooth things over. He was a Portuguese citizen, licenced to do electrical work in Portugal and Mozambique, but not here. I checked his name against the COC that I'd been given. It was not the same. I later changed the conversation to the COC and how he'd signed that off when he wasn't legally able to do electrical work here. He straight away told me that there was a guy in Pretoria that you could go to if you needed a COC and he'd take your word for it that everything was OK, and if ever needed a COC I was just to call him and he'd speak to the guy in Pretoria.

I was on the phone to the ECB the next day. They took down all the details. A couple of days later they called me back to say that said "guy in Pretoria" was issuing dozens of COCs each day, indeed seemed to do little else, and they were going to investigate further. A few weeks later they called me back to say that said guy was now an ex-electrician and thanked me for bringing the matter to their attention. They also advised that I should not let the actual, non-licensed electrician through my door again (they couldn't act against him because he was never registered with them in the first place).

Electricians deal with things that if they're not properly done can damage propery, hurt people, or worse. I have never resented an electrician who explained to me that whatever hare-brained idea I had, it couldn't be done because of safety issues, indeed I have often thanked them.

This sort of peer policing is what keeps customers safe and preserves the reputation of the trade.

Perhaps it make more sense to sell the Sunsynk and buy another Solis S6 6KW? It will take you upto 12KW of inverter power as opposed to 16KW.

Finally installed and up and running!

Before:

Now:

image.thumb.png.7fa63880648912378ced5d78b1317ca3.png

In addition to the 6kw I won, I purchased two 6kw's, three AM-2's and seven 550w solar panels.

I now have 18kw load capacity, 12495w solar power and 33kwh backup power.

The Solis app is good, interface and functionality wise, but only updates every 5 or so minutes unless you are connected via Bluetooth at close range, rather disappointing.

I still have my Hubble Cloudlink connected to my batteries, for firmware updates and can see near real time charge/discharge values, but Hubble is still developing the inverter integration so cant see near real time inverter statistics.

Overall the installation looks kick ass, my batteries have only gone down to a minimum 40% overnight and solar max's out at 11.5 kw before my batteries are fully charged around midday.

Any questions let me know.

Thanks this is what we aim to achieve as Power Forum help people find the best possible solutions that is why we review and Test products we have 2 of these units in real world long term tests and we will provide feedback on the whole experience.

Feel free to ask questions regarding the product Solis will answer technical and product related questions that are relevant directly.

Where can we get unboxing videos and "real-world" updates on the Solis? Would love to even do comparisons on it with other inverters like the Sunsynk and see how well they do on overcast days in terms of PV generation and UPS switchover during Eskom loadshedding.

Holy smokes... how much loads are you consuming or are you Crypo-mining... Good thing my name isn't Eskom, I'd be jealous hehehehe.😀😀 My questions to you are as follows:

1. Compared to the Sunsynk what are noise decibels like from the Solis;

2. Hows the CT performing in terms of ensuring Zero-Export to grid;

3. What did you do with the Sunsynk?

Dis one!

@Moffat

Normal household usage, gas plates, electric oven, tumble dryer, 3kw PTC geyser element, 51000 BTU aircons, kettle, microwave, borehole pump, etc etc

average daily statistics:

image.thumb.png.02e02c0a186ae4adef57ea0436e2cec8.png

Before with my 8kw Sunsynk i would of added another 8kw, thus having 16 kw, but two 6kw's would only give me 12 and I didn't want to have to get another 6kw at a later stage for future possible needs.

  1. super quiet, much less noisy than the Sunsynk
  2. Zero export configured and zero exported
  3. Sold the Sunsynk to the installer, paid for one of the Solis 6kw's

I have a 3000w ups for my alarm, pc, laptop, router with 0ms switching and sometimes when load shedding kicks in the ups doesn't get triggered and other times it does, not sure why it sometimes triggers and other times not, but impressed with the times it doesn't get triggered.

I definitely think I'm getting better PV with the Solis, even or rainy and overcast days, there has not been a single day my batteries haven't charged back to 100%

This is looking "LOVELY" and giving me confusion as to whether to upgrade to Sunsynk or Solis.🧐
