August 18, 20232 yr Hello Powerforum Members I am very pleased to announce the SOLIS S6 6KW ADVANCED HYBRID giveaway Here is our Preliminary Product Review SOLIS S6 FIRST IMPRESSIONS The Solis S6 full hybrid inverter is a new product that promises to offer advanced features for today's solar market. There are three variants available: 5kW, 6kW and 8kW, which supports both single-phase and three-phase parallel connections of up to 6 units. The inverters have an impressively high PV input of 160% rated inverter power, with dual MPPTs. The MPPTs have a wide voltage range of 90-520V and a maximum MPPT efficiency of 99.5% The inverters also offer a high pass-through PV power of 9.2kW for the 5kW and 6kW versions, and 11.5kW for the 8kW inverter while connected to the grid. This means that the inverter has the ability to use more PV power to charge battery and support grid load at the same time. The inverters come with a smart auxiliary port which can be configured for a generator input, AC-coupled grid-tied inverter or smart load output, which is rated 1:1 to the inverter’s output capacity. The auxiliary port can be used to connect a backup generator or another grid-tied inverter to increase the system's reliability and flexibility. The smart load output can do load shedding control of non-essential loads such as water heaters or pool pumps, based on the available solar energy or battery state of charge during off grid status. The inverters are also shipped with a CT which can be easily installed and used to export excess energy to non-essential loads or to limit the grid export power according to local regulations. The inverters claim to have a 10-second surge power backup overload capability of 200%, which will be tested during our full product review. This means that the inverter can handle twice its rated power for a short period of time, which can be useful for starting heavy loads such as air conditioners or pumps. Another feature is a 24-hour real-time intelligent energy management system which can be monitored and controlled with a free to use smart and user-friendly app interface that can be accessed via the included Bluetooth dongle or Wi-Fi datalogger. The app allows the user to view the system's performance, status, history and settings, as well as to set up timers, schedules and modes for different scenarios. The product is NRS 097 certified, which means it meets the standards for grid-tied inverters in South Africa. Overall, the product sounds impressive and appealing for anyone looking for a hybrid inverter that can handle multiple sources of power and provide UPS-level switching of less than 4ms in case of grid failure. With an IP66 rating, multiple features, a user-friendly interface and a very low price point, the inverter is in the running to be one of the most popular hybrid inverters in the South African market. The Solis S6 full hybrid inverter range has been approved and listed on the City of Cape Town’s Photovoltaic Inverter List as of July 2023 and visible on the update list dated: 10 August 2023, the list see here Approved Photovoltaic (PV) Inverter List.pdf Something Noteworthy to add is that Solis Warranty Policy is a replacement policy so if you have an inverter with a factory warranty fault Solis will replace your inverter and not repair it they also guarantee a very short turn around time for testing to ascertain if the inverter is faulty due to Factory Warranty conditions or external factors. Hello @YellowTapemeasure Yes there is a dedicated RS485 Port in the inverter that will support Modbus data communication in the current firmware version the port is inactive however Solis has confirmed that this will be activated in a later firmware version that will allow for home assistant solar assistant google home etc. They are still in the testing phases on that as far as I know however I will ask Solis to give us more information on that topic.
August 18, 20232 yr Author Direct Answer From James Frank Head of Solis South Africa " Home assistant and home automation is currently under development...an API is available to retrieve the data from our platform at this point.... "
August 18, 20232 yr Got a quote from the powerforum store yesterday for the Solis S6 8kw, but would be fantastic to win this. I have 2 x micro inverters I want to connect to the Gen/Aux port and see how this works with the Solis S6. Holding thumbs. Edited August 18, 20232 yr by Greglsh
August 18, 20232 yr WOW!! This is unheard of these days. What a great initiative and just putting a smile on one's face. Great product! Good luck to the winner 🙂

August 18, 20232 yr It's good for consumers that we now have more options. The popular brands have become over priced and their wsrranties, support dont match the "swap/replace if failed" option.

I would love to hear what they say are the pro's and con's
August 18, 20232 yr Author Yes I have a unit in place that replaced my Sunsynk and I am already seeing higher average PV production for the same time vs last year the application is an absolute pleasure to use very intuitive. Installation was just a direct change of the inverter so same panels and batteries as with the Sunsynk. No noise anymore the Solis is silent. Big Plus point.. BMS config worked immediately no gymnastics required with the Hubble AM2 batteries SOC Voltages and SOH visible on the app. Added Features like String Arch detection makes for early warning if there are problems on your strings. App is in real-time on your phone Web app updates between 1 to 5 mins max. Tons of adjustment available under settings.. Additionally the inverter is more robust have not managed to trip it yet..in contrast the other one tripped easily with the same combination of loads. So far very happy with it. Adding a second one in parallel soon with seperate battery bank ... Magneto Super Cap.. and a wind turbine AC Coupled.. Will update as things progress.

August 18, 20232 yr If Solis is clever with their pricing, 2 x 5kW Solis is a real contender vs 1x8kW Sunsync. Of course one needs to consider 2x5kW luxpower as well. The big question is, can Solis be remotely controlled by and end user?

And the owner has full control of the inverter not the installer the owner has to give the installer permission to make changes. There are Installer level function that is limited but majority of the important functions are all available for the end user. Also the installer can not switch your inverter off or block it remotely! Neither can Solis Unless you report it Stolen.. Edited August 18, 20232 yr by Powerforum Store
