Hi guys,

Hoping someone can help....

I have one of these installed for the pool pump but every time load shedding kicks in and then ends, the timer seems to ignore the schedule and defaults to on.

Pool pump is set to run from 07:00 - 18:00 but if load shedding kicks in around 02:00 and then ends at 04:00, the pool pump turns on despite it being outside of the schedule.

Does the "device restart status" in the CBI app have anything to do with this?

i noticed this too. 

if you use node red you can overcome this. i just finished a flow which 1. checks the time according to the schedule, 2. if in time schedule, checks grid state, if grid on then it turns the switch on. 

 

there may be other ways.

There is a setting for that under settings.

Not sure if it will solve the problem, but... If set to off, It won't remember the last status and remain off when power returns. The scheduler will run and switch it on.

It' actually 3 settings, off, on, remember last setting.🤦‍♂️

Ewelink is for Sonoff devices - totally different product 😬

The cBI app work nice.  Which other apps can also control the Astute. 

Also have two Sonoff basic wifi switches which I control with eWeLink.  But I could only found the EweLink app in the App store but not in google play.  Anybody know why? 

The eWelink website also seems to be down.  What other app (preferably google play) can i use the control the Sonoff.

If you purchase a new ASC ... you will find that the light colour has changed ... you dont see the blue paired light while in standby anymore ... its like a pinky colour.

It has also become a little more difficult to see when the blue light is flashing while trying to pair the device.

I contacted CBI ... they are aware of the new colours ... its not a faulty unit.

A lot of us use Home Assistant to control everything, so connect CBIs to the Tuya app and integrate from there.

The Google Home app though can also bring in all your switches from Tuya and eWelink so its a nice simple one to have one single app for switching. You can't see power usage from there though afaik.

I still have the eWelink app installed and it works, but agree with you that it isnt on play store anymore, very strange.

Grrrr - on the cBI app one of my Astutes shows approx 700W power consumption when the geyserwise it is connected to is OFF 🙁. Been happening for some time now - makes the day/month/year recordings of power consumption useless...

Anyone else seen this ?

A useful tip that I got from Larry at CBI is when setting these up is to plug it into a regular plug first, pair it and then put it in the DB Board or wherever it's going.

In my case, the whole colour thing was quite difficult to do leaning over a pool box

@Muttley Home assistant has a great solar forecasting ability, I only switch my pool on using Node Red when there is going to be enough solar power to run it from solar.

My problem with an App based system is that it talks to a service in the cloud (like Tuya) and, should internet go down, so does all your automations. Us “die hards” flash these (and many other) devices with Tasmota, giving you a nice, common platform for stuff from various manufacturers to talk to each other. And to make it pretty, we use Home Assistant to display/control all this stuff, although it’s mostly not critical for that to remain working. Multiple redundancy and everything remains on the local network.

I saw there was a person on Mybroadband that microprocessor in the unit but if there is an easier way to just reflash it that would be a win.

From the MyBB article the CBI uses a different microprocessor which is incompatible with tasmota.
The fix is to replace the microprocessor with an ESP32 - involves fine soldiering - which is not easy.

I tried the CBI using "local Tuya" (which is still cloud based) - but uses the original microprocessor.
The problem I had was that the device would default to OFF after load shedding and not the previous state.

As someone noted:
"Evening. Has anyone got a solution to load shedding and the astute not returning to the state it was in when the power went down? I have green caught out twice now with no warm water and the wife is not impressed"

I bought one about 2 months back - i think its a v2 because it has the ability for you to define what state the device should be in when power returns - this is even exposed in Home Assistant as well

So i just integrated the DBI Astute Smart Plug (ASP) into Home Assistant without any firmware flashing or Hardware hack. CBI Astute use standard Tuya wifi chip.
I am using Tuya local, so no cloud required and it works like a charm.
I used the Tuya app to setup the ASP on my WiFi - Make sure you are on 2.4Ghz wifi, the CBI ASP only work on 2.4Ghz wifi.
Once connected to my network, i followed these instructions to get the ASP into HA - HOW TO - Setup Local Tuya in Home Assistant

Be patient and go slow as it is a pain, but it does work.

Make sure you have something plugged into the ASP that draw power, as you need to look at the field values while integrating into HA to select the correct entry for Voltage, current and Wattage.

So now i can switch off (from HA) my stove or Geyser, any CBI Astute device, when there is load shedding to prevent the Inverter battery from getting drained.

Local Tuya does allow HA to connect directly to the devices.
But keep in mind the devices are remain connected to Tuya Cloud so you can also use SmartLife.

How do you guys run your CBI Astute in conjunction with your geyserwise and solar? 
e.g. My EV tube solar geyser comes on between 4am and 5am just to ensure that I have enough hot water for the wife via a timer on the geyserwise. However if there is loadshedding I don’t want the geyser to come on because it will kill my battery. So how do you change the geyser to come on at an earlier or later time?

I use Home Assistant and NodeRed to turn off all my large loads during power failures, with some exceptions like when the sun is shining and batteries are already full etc. That way I can have all my loads on the essential side but not drain the battery unless I want to, its all about options for me.

Node-Red monitors the frequency of the grid and when it drops to 0 then it runs the flow to turn things off.

So that answers the turning off part of the question, however the changing time part is more tricky. I havent done it but in theory NodeRed could monitor for planned load shedding and then force the geyser on at a different time. Your time of use settings on the inverter would need to be logically set so that it pulls from the grid and doesnt just drain your batteries earlier.
