Growatt Inverter + Pylontech Batteries : BMS Comms Guide

Featured Replies

Hallo Guys. I am another frustrated customer/installer. I installed a SPF 5000TL HVM-WPV with 2 x 3.6Kwh Dyness and 5.2Kw PV. For myself. I used RS485 for the BMS from day one. October2020. It was working fine (80%) until I experience that my Batteries SOC drifted apart. One night it switched of due to one battery below it's voltage. My Firmware was still original. After I saw that Strauss upgraded his WPV I asked Growatt for the Files. I got it from two different directions. Both the same. I flashed the two files in the folder to the Inverter. Version 040.03/041.3. Inverter worked fine but during the night it lost its BMS connection and there after randomly. By the way you can use CAN or RS485  on the upgrade. Either this version is no good or I need to upgrade my Batteries also. Never ending. Andy from Aspergo is also involved. The latest version looks like 048.02/049.02 for the Inverter. In the Menu 24 is also missing. For dry contacts , Bonding Relay. Koos

NOTE TO ALL We have now established that BOTH of the firmware updates that were provided to me by Growatt in China ARE required to get the BMS comms working correctly between the Growatt SPF5000

For what its worth. I have installed a few growatt inverters with Dyness Batteries.

My settings on the ES is Li and protocol 1. Cable that I use is the black cable black boot on the in port on the battery and orange boot in the RS485 port on the inverter. Dipswitches 0110 on master and the rest 0000. This setup is working without a hitch

TL is a bit more finnicky. Also the same black cable with black boot on IN port on battery and orange boot in the BMS port.

Battery DIP settings 0110 on master and the rest 0000. With the TL you will have to play around with the protocols. setting is Li and protocol 1 or 2. Start with 1, powerdown the inverter completely and restart. error 04 will show for about a minute then dissapear. if you get an error 20 after restart try protocol 2.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO POWERDOWN EVERYTHING COMPLETELY AFTER YOU MADE CHANGES. it works, dont know why but it does.

hope this will help someone

Bonjours,

Après plusieurs tentatives, des mises à jour et des contacts avec growatt d'une part et pylontech d'autre part, j'ai fini par mettre les onduleurs growatt SPF5000 HVM-P sur USER2.

Hi, can you maybe elaborate on this? Power down the inverter? Process? or inverter + batteries? Process?

It then keeps the settings?

TIA

Thanks Wilco. Some info I pick up. The new Firmware I am running now on my WPV is also for the ES. The Menu's changed and added. But they take away the Bonding relay contact. Also when you upgrade your Inverter you sometimes have to upgrade your Batteries. Dyness. That is what Aspergo suggested I must do. That will sort the High voltage Alarm 3/36. Or I will rollback to a version 048.02/049.02_20200907 which is a higher number then 041.03/041/03_20210203 but it is only for WPV Inverters.

Mains off, PV off, inverter off and lastly batteries. Then batteries on, inverter on and then the rest. Some TL inverters only load the new settings after a reboot

This is correct, the Pylontech BMS will not communicate and the Inverter is monitoring the battery voltages and the charging under the user mode US2 setting.  The Li light will be flashing, that is normal.  The US2 setting works well for me.

Hi J5-immortal,

Do you mind sharing your inverters US2 settings. I am using USE settings and I feel it might not be the same as US2.

My battery is US3000 x 1 connected to 1 x Growatt SPF5000 HVM

  I have 2 x Growatt SPF 5000TL inverters, 24 PV (12 x 340w and 12 x 365w).  I have one stack of 8 x US2000 Pylontech batteries.

I  am keeping with my setup (05 -US2) as follows which seems to be working just fine up till now to get my batteries charged during the day, with combined charging current up to 100 Amps when active load requirement allows. This setup will normally get my battery stack fully charged up by 13H00, keeping it charged until sundown which will then see me through for the night.  I am 100% off-grid most of the time during sunny days.  The monitor app might not show the charge percentage of the batteries accurately (BMS cable not connected) but you can always check the battery voltage on the info (i) icon or on the detailed logs.  As soon as you see the PV switches off during the day, you know your batteries are fully loaded.  The internal battery BMS will switch off the charging current from the inverters when the batteries are fully charged and you will see the battery voltage indicated on the inverter jump up to +/-53V due to the battery charging load being removed. (My BMS cable is not connected to the inverters). I am quite satisfied with the performance and functioning of the system set up like this.

First set up function 05 - US2 and then all the other settings and double check again after adjusting all settings:

01  - SBU
02  - 80A
04 - SDS
05 - US2
11 - 30A
12 - 47.7v
13 - 48.3v
14 - OSO
19 - 52.3v
20 - 52.3v
21 - 47.5v

Hi Guys,

also looking for some help. Growatt SPF5000TL HVM with  US3000c

I read this whole thread..  Trying to update the firmware with the files posted but not seeing any change my side.. Cant even get the damn Shine app to work.

question. Can someone confirm the pinout of the BMS cable. I created as I though based on my reading but no luck. I keep getting 4/20 errors when I power up on Li setting.

PS: Inverter will only be used as UPS at this stage. NO PV attached. I would dearly like to have the BMS running to see the battery % and have the battery manage charge. no luck. Anyone that can walk me through it? I would really appreciate it.

Thanks, JT

Could someone also perhaps assist with the firmware (all three). All of them. ( will send email address via message)

Simply cant get the Shinewifi to work. I assume it is the third firmware update. Using laptop or phone I get to the login screen on the Shine AP and once logged in I can see it drops wifi and I effectively dont get authenticated keeping me stuck on the login or first screen post login. Also if someone can confirm the pinout for the BMS cable for a SPF5000TL HVM with a Pylon US3000c

Thank you!

Thanks.

For reference found a picture of what they look like: - think you can add 2x of these to link 7 inverters in parallel to a battery bank.

Hi Igubu,

Did you manage to find someone who sells this RS485 / CAN Bus hub?

If so, can you please share the information?

Thank you in advance,

Best regards,

Leander Geldenhuys.

Exactly like J5 immortal’s diagram before my post. All i did is put the ground wire both sides.

I tried that and maybe I amissing something. Please see my pins for both battery and inverter. I tried the layout exactly, I think so🤔

Will appreciate your assistance.
