[wanted] power monitor/recorder

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a single phase power monitor that monitors voltage too. Single phase is fine

Bonus if it is WiFi capable, but as long as it can log at least 5s apart Im good

Other option is the Shelly EM. It runs wifi, upload via cloud so you van connect to it via app, website or log into the IP. Keeps log , hour, days Nd months and year and you export data. You can connect it with Grafana to. It runs 2 clamps and gets it's power from AC in your DB so it works Power Factor in to.

Also running the Shelly ! They great.

A good Freind of mine imports them.

Shout if you need a unit.

Sincerely

@Energy mine was in the same DHL box in lockdown with yours😉

I'm running mine in my inverter DB that supply the house. It uses the L and N from your supply to give it power, so it keeps eye on AC volts and Power Factor. Clamp 1 I'm running in Main AC Breaker to my change over switches and Clamp 2 I'm running on my geyser to keep a eye there. I got my geyser interlock between eskom and the inverter so dump all my extra solar to the geyser then.

What nice about the shelly EM is, it's got n relay/contactor control so jy kan switch stuff on via the Shelly EM. In the settings you can adjust so if you got n load on clamp one of say 3000w, and your inverter can only supply say 5000w, and a load of 3000w on clamp 2 starts up, then it will switch off the load on clamp 1 via the relay control and only switch on the load if the load on clamp 2 is gone again.

What are the prices?

Does your inverter give you load power as well and how does it compare to the Shelly power readings.

In terms of smart switches, I have more than 20 sonofs controlling various devices from heaters, geyser, lights, irrigation. I also have 5 efergy CT sensors on the efergy hub but it seems the efergy is not so accurate.

What is the pricing of Shelly though. I sent a request to the shellyza email but haven’t received feedback. I really like the small form factor though.

Yes, my MLT gives that info and they really close. I use say about 98% the shelly EM info if i need to check. My day to day use lines up with my PV kwh and Battery kwh use.

Best is to check here https://shop.shelly.cloud/shelly-em-50a-clamp-wifi-smart-home-automation-1#139

The SA one you mail got a bit of story behind them, you can check on mybroadband. I see takealot stocks the Shelly 2.5 but it's way over price. You can import 2 for that price. SHELLY EU got n fix rate of €35 with DHL and then you stack the box full of shelly stuff.

Maybe check on the forum if some poeple want and do a batch order then.

So far I'm happy with mine and Energy and the other person that i imported with.

Might also be interested. My old monitor is done, and the online portal also got shut down so need a new monitor...

I'm torn with the monitoring...

I just want something neat and tidy in the DB that doesn't have cables all over the show. I've checked OEM emonTx, Iotawatt, etc. They need extra plug in adapters.

The Shelly looks cool but I don't want the relay part of it. I'm not interested in switching. I wish they made a Shelly PM with no switching.

These "63A 1P Smart Circuit Breaker with monitoring - eWelink" look interesting but they like R700 each. But then I think there will be a lot of interference in that DB with so many things trying to connect to WIFI. I assume it would be the same with lots of Shelly's in the there too.

CBI Nanoview might just be the neatest solution. And then forgo the cloud monitoring.

As far as I could see the Shelly EM for DB board monitoring does have one contactor control switching possibility but you don't need to use it to measure power.
You use p1 and p2 to connect your clamps, so you can measure two channels, which you clamp over the wires you want to measure. So no switching done on the channel you are monitoring.
The contactor control is handy to have, but is a seperate function to the power monitoring.
I will still keep my current cost power monitor to visually see what is happening... but will use the shelly for the accurate logging.
The Shelly PM with the relay is for single smaller appliances and not for the whole house application.

@p_i,I no longer import Shelly on a B2B basis, had too many people incorrectly wiring their items, popping it. Then they were completely oblivious when the item is half blown away or melted away, "I have no idea how it broke" and demanded a refund.

Nology is the currently the only B2B importer and distributor, however they don't bring in the Shelly EM's. I actually had a conversation with them yesterday morning, asking when will they bring it in, but they said the demand for it was too low. I called BS on it, but anyway its up to them.

Your best bet is to wait for black friday and then order a shelly EM + clamps from shelly EU site. 25 November 2022 and tt takes like 3 days with DHL.
