I have a Deye 8kW inverter which is running my whole house with no essential/non essential loads/circuits. So far on a nice sunny day, I am off grid and everything works beautifully. However, on a cloudy/rainy day, the geyser/pool pump deplete the batteries up to the minimum SOC and start pulling power from the grid. This is fine, except when there is load shedding (which seems to be more often than not) in which case the geyser will run my batteries all the way down to the shutoff value when the inverter will then trip the power. The geyser and pool are on timers but are in 2 different parts of the house which are hard to run wires to, which necessitates wireless sw…

Hi all I am not even sure if a product exists that can do what I need it to do but I'm sure there is a way. I have two essential circuits in a sub DB connected to my backup system, soon to become solar powered. The one essential circuit is the lights, and the other is the plug circuit in the kitchen, it is worthy to note that my current battery bank is relatively small and still lead acid (still saving up for lithium) The solution I need is something that will ONLY supply the kitchen circuit with battery power, IF load shedding is between say 17:00 and 19:00. During any other time the kitchen plug circuit must function like a non essential circuit.…

After some experimenting, I've come up with a reliable way to turn various Sonoff Switches on/off based on current Sunsynk stats such as SOV, Grid load, Solar generation, time of day etc. It even has a simple dashboard I'm displaying on an old phone stuck to the wall so that the family knows when is a good time to fire up the washing machine, dishwasher etc. I have various rules (in a bash script) that looks at the Sunsynk stats every 5 minutes and takes decisions on what to turn on/off based on current conditions. This is especially useful if like me you have the entire house on essential load and want fine-grained control of where excess power is used, while minimising …

Hi Folks My latest video is on adding the solar forecasting integration into Home Assistant. Gives home assistant a reasonably accurate assessment of the days energy production and enables it to decide as to whether to switch loads on or not based on the forecast for the day. I am going to cover automations using the forecast data and am working on one using the data from the EskomSePush app to switch loads off as well. If you have any ideas for other videos that you think may be useful please let me know.

Hi All Has anyone looked at optimising their inverter settings based on loadshedding and forecast weather? I've been working on optimising solar usage by automatically changing my inverter settings (charge from grid, use grid, use battery etc) in order to minimise Eskom usage. I'm currently integrating the loadshedding schedule, forecast weather / solar generation, estimate house load, battery size to determine the best settings in order to minimise Eskom usage while not running out of battery / solar power. My inverter is connected via an Esp8266 to Home Assistant, which allows me to get info and control settings on the inverter. Has anyone …

Hi, The CBI/Tuya switch controller displays amps, power, voltage and total power when observed in the Smart Home/Tuya/CBI app. Through Tuya IoT I managed to add the devices to HA but the only usable entity is the switch. All the other sensors are disabled which you see in the attached screenshot. Is there a way to enable these sensors to display this information. If not, these devices are pretty useless on HA as you can see more on the app for the device.

Going to keep this thread as a record of me playing with my Deye inverter for home automation. My son wants to play around with Arduinos so our project will be more for exploration over exploitation of existing systems. The first goal was to find open-source code to pull the stats. I found this basic Python repo: [email protected]:jlopez77/DeyeInverter Put in my config, installed missing packages and lovely dump: { "Running Status()": 2, "Total Grid Production(kwh)": 0.0, "Daily Energy Bought(kwh)": 5.1, "Daily Energy Sold(kwh)": 0.0, "Total Energy Bought(kwh)": 0.0, "Total Energy Sold(kwh)": 0.0, "Daily Load Consumption(KWH)": 10…

With all the LS at the moment, I decided to put my microwave on my essentials load. In order to prevent it maxing out my inverter and tripping it though, I was considering a smart wifi plug to disconnect the microwave if my inverter exceeds a specific load [using Home Assistant]. Most of these sockets are spec'ed at 16A, but I was wondering about their surge capabilities, relay contacts etc. if I were to disconnect the microwave abruptly whilst working. Microwave has a rated input power of 1650W. I would appreciate any views on this, or to hear if someone has setup something similar to this already?

Hi all, Slowly moving the house over to some smart switches and lights. Are there any decent templates I could use to minimise setup / config time? All light switches are Eachen 1 and 2 gang switches. Outside lights, pool motor and geyser are on Sonoff. Stove and geyser are on none essential loads.. Current setup is a Sunsynk 5KW with Hubble AM-2. Any advise / direction would be appreciated. Thanks, Kevin

Noticed a few HA core, NodeRed and MQTT upgrades. After installing, I noticed my NodeRed flows and MQTT entities via SolarAssistant had become unresponsive. Did a few restores, and it seems to be the latest Mosquito broker upgrade. Has anyone else experienced similar? Mosquitto broker Installed version 6.1.3 Latest version 6.2.0

I have seen quite a few people asking about being able to see the SunSynk Flow UI in Home Assistant. So I went playing a bit to see if it is possible to create a custom component in home assistant that would mirror this. Reading a whole lot of documentation on Home Assistant as well as getting to grips with all the possible measurements that is available from the Inverter, I finally have a VERY ALPHA version of it running in Home Assistant and it appears to reflect the UI on my inverter pretty well. Maybe one day I will publish this in HACS and make this custom component available for use. For now there is still a whole lot of learning that needs to happen on …

Hi, I have installed some Eachen Smart Light switches, ( no neutral required ) models, install went pretty good. Only problem is my kitchen led down lights flicker. It's not switch related as I have another set of LED downloads doing the same. Supplied capacitor is installed across one led light per switch. Not sure if it's the LEDS I am using? ( lightworx GU10 3w warm white ) Any advise? Thanks, Kevin

Good day, I have a bit of experience with Home Automation but I am completely new to the solar game. I have an electrician busy installing my 5KW Deye inverter and I have some concerns with how the wiring is set up and want to see if I can solve my problems without spending a fortune on tearing up the driveway. We have an outbuilding (A garage that was converted into a flat) that has its geyser and connects to the pool pump and only one DB Board. The inverter + battery + solar is set up in the main house with the home load being set to the main geyser + stove and the essential load is configured to be the plugs+light+outbuilding. I have noticed that when the aircon i…

It's becoming clear I'm not very good at setting automation. In saying that I would be greatful to get advice or the setup on how to have the laodshedding add on in the HACS store trigger my camera. The problem isn't auctioning the camera but more so to get the condition to tell loadshedding add on to do xyz when loadshedding is on. I can't seem to find the on/off attribute for the add on. Seems simple but beyond me

Hey everyone - I am planning to implement home automation in a new home I'm moving into. I want to make sure I start off in the right direction, but it seems there is so much to consider. I am trying to figure out which smart system I should go with (Alexa, Google, etc), and other considerations I should keep in mind. For context, I have the following items I would ideally like to link up to the system: I use Android mobile devices, and my wife uses Apple. We have Android TV's / media sticks running Google TV (Netflix, Disney Plus, Amazon Prime, YouTube Music) Will have a solar system with a Daiwa inverter - WiFi enabled EZVIZ wireless…

Hey everyone, I was hoping that someone could help me with an integration between my SunSynk 8kw inverter and home assistant. Due to the distance to my garage where my inverter is installed I have opted for an RS485-to-ethernet adapter to get the data out of the inverter and into HA. Components: DIEWU Ethernet to RS485 server SunSynk 8kw inverter: SW Ver.:M 6.0.1.4 / S 1.7.2.4 / C E.4.2.4 Home Assistant: HAOSOVA 7.4 VM within a Proxmox cluster Steps Taken: I have wired up the RS485 gateway to the SunSynk via an RJ45(ethernet) plug to the SunSynk inverter using the pinout from kellerza's GitHub: …

I had a decent solar system installed at the end of last year and its been working really well. Only two lines in the original db was configured to stay solely on Eskom power, that being my stove and the other my geyser. The rest of house runs through the inverters and if the batteries are depleted it automatically switches over to Eskom. I am looking to refine the system a bit as I'd obviously like to have my Eskom usage as low as possible. One improvement opportunity I have is to heat my geyser in the day with PV power as I have a lot of spare capacity there. Currently my geyser (running only on Eskom) has a afternoon cycle to heat the water for the kids to take a …

I recently bought the EZVIZ C8W Pro 2K - and was hoping it would continuely survey/scan my front yard. Its 340 degree rotation however it seems one can only pan and Tilt manually. There is also an option for 12 preset camera views one can save however one has to manually select a view for the camera to go there. Does anyone have a workaround in perhaps home assistant that could make it continuously scan the area. Or perhaps know how to turn this feature on in the ezviz app? Thanks in advance

Hey guys, Hope you're all well. I've had an account here for ages but haven't really posted much. I see there are some Home Assistant warriors in here so thought I'd add myself to the fight. I recently (like 5 days ago) had an issue with my network and HA and long story short I ended up losing *ALL* my work over the last 3 years (don't ask, backups were corrupt), and it gave me a nice fresh start to re-create everything again from scratch. It was pretty easy getting everything reconnected, just a ball ache re-doing the dashboards and automations. Also gave me the opportunity to re-do my interfaces using the UI-Minimalist (fsking cool addon). Okay, I'm rambl…

I have installed the software according to the link from kellerza https://github.com/kellerza/sunsynk But i get no communication to home assistant via the rs485-usb converter. I have installed Modbus TCP to Modbus RTU Gateway Add-on but get the following message: 15:48:14] INFO: Starting mbusd -d -L - -v 2 -p /dev/ttyS0 -s 9600 -m 8N1 -P 502 13 Mar 2022 15:48:14 mbusd-0.5.1 started... 13 Mar 2022 15:48:14 tty: trying to open /dev/ttyS0 (speed 9600 mode 8N1) 13 Mar 2022 15:48:14 conn_init(): can't open tty device /dev/ttyS0 (I/O error) 13 Mar 2022 15:48:14 conn_init() failed, exiting... have configured /dev/ttyS0 to be the device have tried all of the…

Hey everyone I like the look of Home Automate and want to start procuring what is required to set this up. I like the idea of running on a Raspberry Pi due to it being a small low-power device, and will be purpose built - hopefully less admin than if I ran on a PC. That being said I know very little about the topic, and I am looking for advice on the suggested setup. So, some questions: Should I use Raspberry Pi, or rather something else? If I do go with Raspberry Pi, any advice on where I go to purchase one, along with any required components? (I live in Durban area, so ideally something near or online) Is there a "How To" guide or video som…

Ok, so yes you are correct, there is no Home Assistant BASIC. But for those of us who do not have the knowledge to install and operate Home Assistant, Node Red, MQTT with Pi programming etc., some BASIC options do exist. My inverter started to run a tad hot during these hot summer days when solar PV is at its max to charge the batteries. Yes, the Deye 5kw unit does have a fan but that only clicks in at 65 degrees C. So, I decided to install a small desk-sized USB fan using a small digital timer plug to turn the fan on at 8am and off again at 4pm. And it works like a dream. The fan does have an impact and I am not seeing those 65 degree C spikes on the inverter o…
