  1. http://www.sinetech.co.za/news-omnipower-powerbank-affordable-lithium-ion-battery-energy-storage.shtml The PowerBank is a high power and compact 48 V, 6.5 kWh energy storage solution capable of being discharged to 80% for approximately 5000 discharge cycles. The PowerBank can easily handle 6.5kW continuous power draw as well as a 10kW in rush capability whereas the “other” very well-marketed Li battery (at the time of article release: 6 May 2016) can only deliver 3.3kW of power. The Omnipower Lithium-Ion storage system is extremely cost effective even when compared to high-cycle lead-acid batteries; this is mainly due to The PowerBank’s longevity and high c…

Has anyone found a decent or at last half decent multiplug, I have tried nearly all of the builders specials and some others from Voltex. The most decent ones I still have are from the 80's, they are servacible and have nice chunky contacts. I don't mind paying for my safety. Poor contacts is a big risk and fiddling in the dark with a crappy plug is going to give me an aneurism. Any suggestions?

Hi All Looking at ways to control and use my excess solar power during the day. The wifi controlled smart plugs looks like the most convenient plug and play system available. Does anybody know of similar plugs and prices locally? http://www.miro.co.za/catalogue/edimax-smart-plug-wireless-remote-controlled-scheduled-power-switch/ Thanks Thys

MPP Solar has two new series, a SE series which has higher bulk and float charge settings (61V), and the MSD/MST series with multiple MPPTs. Now even TTT can equalise his Trojans. (Well nearly call me a liar for one volt or schedule your equalise for mid-summer when one should adjust charge voltages down.)

  6. I thought i would share my thoughts on the Imeon Hybrid 3.6kw Inverter with you folks. I had installed one to test at my home on the 1st November. The test environment is: Imeon 3.6 Inverter allowing 3kw of PV according to the manual through one MPPT controller......" I don' think so" as per the same with the Infinisolar...... The Imeon manual states nominal input of 3kw of pv with a max of 450vdc at a max of 18amps....... so here goes Mike, I connected 6490w of pv in two strings of 11 in parallel allowing 3245w at 8.69a and approx 411vdc spread across a spectrum of ENE to NNW And guess what it works as i thought the Infini would in the early days, as long as yo…

So I have managed to sell my dirt bike and get hold of a couple of ronds to buy some solar panels which I will connect to my inverter. I have put together a list of my requirements (I hope I haven't left anything out) and was wondering if you guys were able to point me in the right direction regarding sourcing these items in Johannesburg. Please bare in mind that I am on a tight budget! I may not have all the terminology correct but heres my list: 6 x 250watt solar panels 2 x MC4 male connectors 2 x MC4 female connectors 2 x Fuse holders 2 x 10amp solar fuses 1 x surge arrestor 16 meters of aluminium mounting rail (4 meter lengths) 16 x tiled roof mounts (pr…

What do you guys think of these little inverters: http://www.i-energyinc.com/en/products/i-micro-inverter.html For small systems, this seems perfect? Getting a MPPT controller and inverter, then connect it to your DB board following all the T&C's are expensive. Versus adding panel for panel with inverter, reducing your power consumption. Just need to sort out the anti-islanding in case Eskom is off.

I have installed a 60kva Kaco Powador Grid tie inverter. I am impressed with the inverter this far. It is a neat unit and works very well. Kaco have excellent local support. The unit I have, have been commissioned by Kaco themselves on site. They come and check everything and make sure that the installation is done correctly and everything work as planned. If the unit goes faulty, they repair the unit on-site. They carry the spares in South Africa and offers a 48hr turn around time, which I think is fantastic. The unit is well priced for what it is offering.

Hi a farming friend of mine whose farm is dependant on a Lister generator is looking to install a small PV system that would run a TV, couple of lights and cell charger. He is expecting his Australian family over Xmas and wants to make things a little more comfortable. In 2016 he is looking to install a Axpert 4kW system and move the small temporary system over to his stockman's cottage. Any ideas suggestions?

I'm in the process of repairing a Microcare MPPT controller. I decided to do it myself because 1) I was at the point of just chucking it on the scrap heap and 2) I have dreams of building my own some day. Because others might find this insightful, here's my latest post, complete with some horrible-SA-accent video :-) http://izak.github.io/2015/08/27/repairing-the-mppt-2/

  20. Good evening all, Please tell me... has anybody on this forum ever had anything to do with a company called Ixocel? Has anybody bought one of their. 12 volt dc solar powered systems? I have had one of their systems for almost 1 year now and am now starting to experience some challenging difficulties with components and appliances which form part of the system. The major challenge, however, is that l am unable to contact them at all so l am receiving absolutely no after sales service from them. I have tried to contact them on numerous occasions through several avenues now but receive no response to my requests for assistance. If there is anyone one who has one of th…
