I have invented a 1/300 of a degree solar tracking device and are looking to either license the technology or build and rent out complete heliostat fields heating a solar tower. Building the heliostats with its peripherals such as linear actuators and Fresnel matrix grid array mirrors are well known in the art. Tracking the sun with acceptable accuracy has traditionally been a costly and complicated endeavor, my tracking device solves this problem. Both thermal and concentrated photo voltaic applications are possible. The industry standard is to focus over 800 suns on triple junction cell. Tripple junction is costly, an alternative is to focus 50 suns on a plain mono crys…

In the near future I want to expand my current array and add a west facing array to the current north facing array. I'm looking for MPPT that can take a high voltage input so that I don't have to run thick cables as the west facing roof is further away than the current array. I found the MLT Nomad that looks attractive so far. Can go up to 350V input. They go for around 14k which is not cheap but not unaffordable either. Any others? On a side note, for these prices it feels that buying several Axpert inverters are almost cheaper It's a pity there are so few high voltage MPPTs Edit: The MPPT should also have some analog input to stop charging.

Just got this from an Australian reseller :-) --- snip --- I just had a call from a customer with a Victron System. He was caught in Cyclone Debbie in North Queensland, Australia. His MPPT was inside a temporary building that was caught in a flood and filled up with water. When the flood level went down, he looked through the window and could see the blinking blue light of his Victron regulator UNDER WATER! System is still working to this day nearly a year later.

I am looking at the following products and need some advice. I have an existing 1,5 kw PV array and a 200aH 24v battery bank. I am looking at using the following equipment: Multiplus 24v 3kva 70/50 Venus GX (for ESS use) Victron single phase meter (prevent back feed) Fronius primo 3kw OR a MPPT 150/60 These are my questions: 1) Could I use the Venus GX for ESS instead of the colour control (to save cost) 2) What are the advantages of using the Fronius inverter over using the victron MPPT 3) What comms cables would I need get this system running?

Perhaps a good place to list some good specials. I just noted that Sustainable.co.za (not my favourite as they are usually around 20% overpriced) is selling the BlueNova batteries at a good price. For example, a 4kwh unit is going for just over 40k, VAT inc. Just note that in C1 terms it is really a 3.6kwh battery, but at the rated 7000 cycles to 70% it's still a cool R2.27/kwh. It doesn't look as if Current Automation is did anything this year.

So I got my hands on a Sonoff dual relay which is controlled by a smart phone app. Just thought it may help some fellow forum members when tinkering with systems? They are available form Communica but I got mine from http://www.smartkit.co.za because they had a grand opening special R200 for a 2 channel relay) The smart phone app is free to download and I believe you can flash these units and reprogram them however you want. If you have a look at youtube you will see that some people are using Amazon Alexa to voice control these relays. Also Sonoff has a handy little power meter (single phase small load) Attached video for demo I believe the…

Is there anyone familiar with Homer energy microgrid software? I used the free version for a small simulation. It was very limited. And the sensitivity analysis was a bit weird. I don't know whether the simulation matches empirical data or not. I am a bit skeptic about it. If there is someone who has experience with it, can you confirm that the data is accurate or not, and do you recommend buying this software? If not, can you recommend another software? Thanks.

Whenever we have a power failure at home (its often as there is construction in the area) I can't boil the kettle and have a cup of coffee because my inverter is not big enough to handle the load So I ordered a little kettle on Takealot for R275 https://www.takealot.com/mellerware-piccolo-mini-cordless-kettle-white/PLID36957259 It works well on my inverter and only pulls about 1160watts Hope this helps anyone looking for a kettle with a small element.

I have said that IF it is proven that a Axpert MPPT is similar or same as a Victron MPPT, arranging a test 150/35 for this purpose, the results are in. Not at all what was expected. Seems to me I need to keep my promise. I leave it now to Paul to give a detailed feedback in the next post.

Hi all I have just joined and thought that some might find this interesting . I have read thru a good couple of topics but cant find any on the(black not green) V series or baby infini as I call it . I have just set up the black v series axpert /infini 4kw at my house, but just a bit of my history first. I have been running most of my house on solar now for 2 and half years with a " older" system comprising of a 3kw powerstar low frequency inverter (Love it) and 2 to 4 bats 100ah 24v system . I have lets call it 3 kw of panels which could give me up to 100a (summer peak) . and then 2 charge controllers , along with clever timers and voltage comparator to switch …

Does anybody have experience in this inverter? I need a 3-phase inverter and this one has been suggested. However I feel in my bones that it may be "old" Infini, or is that nonsense? The new 4kW inverter being "new" Infini. Many thanks...
