September 8, 20223 yr Author Indeed also no cabling between the battery and the inverter everything is integrated including the DC Isolator and on the PV side you only need the type 1 type 2 SPD devices no PV combiner boxes needed and also proper plugs to connect all the inputs and outputs to the inverter no silly connector blocks that can break They claim that the inverter and the battery can be fully installed in 30 Minutes this will reduce labor time wasted considerably ..

They could not get this unit to work reliably - kept on having brownouts approx once or twice a day . Even contacted China only to be told later this is not designed as an offgrid system. Installation manual explicitly states "that its not an offgrid system" , even though the glossy brouchre says it can work offgrid. Unit was removed and replace with SunSynk. now all is OK

The G3 has barely launched in SA.

September 8, 20223 yr We have the Alpha Ess Smile 5. With 11.4kw backup. This system been installed August 2020. We never had any mayor issue with the system. The minor issues we had Failover switch and surge protector Eskom side burned during loadshedding. Than during loadshedding we might use 1 to many appliances as we forgot that we on loadshedding and the system trip. Only issue what I do have. We are a household of 6. Sometimes we need slightly more power. Wish you can add another Smile 5 inverter parallel to current to up the kw usage. Said that. Our house is 360sqm under roof. The system does everything. Only appliances not connected. Stove and 2 geysers. We dont have a pool pump nor borehole. I so wish I can get the new system as a my frail aunt in need of a system as she needs power for her oxygen machine. 2 hours loadshedding is fine but when the power trip after loadshedding it can take hours to get power back in that suburbs.

September 10, 20223 yr Pity the Australia battery testing facility has closed down, it would’ve been interesting to see how this battery fares in those “stress tests”, they used to do & also of interest would be it’s compatibility with various low-to-high value inverters (Goodwe, Sunsynk, Victron, BYD etc. Generally a battery with a disconnect breaker switch, for me is great and even if I have to double-up with a secondary one. Let’s see how this goes, and if it can also go regional, given Southern African power challenges and it’s support both by installers and online.

September 15, 20223 yr Looks good on paper, would be interesting to see how reliable it is versus: 1. Unreliable grid; 2. Changeover times, when grid goes down; 3. Ability for End-user to tinker settings for "individual preferred settings" 4. How it performs under continuous or intermittent heavy loads say of 3000-4000w or powertools; 5. Effectiveness to reduce energy costs when paired with Pv; 6. Can it be set up to send power to non-essential loads when battery is at "certain soc" or if "battery full"?

Hi, the cable between Battery and inverter are needed. but it "hide" inside.

There was no support and they only changed their manual after I had sold mine. Now I have 2x5kva Victron inverters installed and can't be happier. I rather spend more than buy unsupported Chinese equipment.

I hope they can parallel more than two units or make larger units in future. I installed the unit in May this year, and I found it quite a great product. There are few improvement issues to address such as that meter installation manual, which is quite useless, also that the inverter won't work without the meter. They are also not good in explaining the inverter settings. In overall it's a great device quick and easy to install.
