Got sent this photo yesterday. An apartment building in Cape Town had a fire which was caused by batteries. I wanted to know what forum members were doing to safeguard against/extinguish fires in their battery cabinets. Is there a cost effective gas suppression system out there for residential use?

My Pylontech batteries and the Victron BMV 702 battery monitor can not agree what the correct SOC is in the morning. The BMV value is usually +- 15% higher than the Pylontech's. During charging the BMV also reaches 100% SOC long before the Pylontechs. I have set the charge efficiency and Peukert's exponent in line with the recommendation from Victron to 99% and 1.05. The battery capacity has also been set to the right value. Has anybody figured out which charge efficiency and Peukert's exponent values give the best alignment between the BMV and the Pylontech SOC calculation?

What could be a problem with my pylontec batteries they are not coming on .at first they were on bat they were saying battery low and they I try to charge directly by bypassing the mppt and they charge for 3 minuets and they just went off. And they never come on. I tried to switch on and off but nothing happened. Please help to.

Hi guys I’ve got 2 new narada 48nfpc100 batteries connected in parallel, but it seems that they are not draining equally. Specifically, it seems pack 2 is typically the one that drains faster. The wiring from the inverter goes to pack 1, with pack 2 parallel connected to 1, so it is weird that pack 2 is the one more drained (e.g pack 1 will have 2 lights in soc, whilst pack 2 will have 3) Another thing i’ve noticed is that sometimes during low load, pack 1 will go into standby, while pack 2 will service the load. Most of this occurs during night time with no solar activity, and both will charge up properly during the day. the only thing i can think of …

Saw a recent comment/rant on the forum about people buying "expensive" lithium batteries and pairing them with "cheap" inverters, and it got me thinking, are lithium batteries actually more expensive compared to the more traditional lead acids. I don't believe they are, and here is why. I have specifically written the below using the Omnipower batteries which I'm familiar with. Hi Guys Been following the forum for quite some time and at a stage (no pun intended) where I want to install an inverter system with a phase 1 being battery only to combat load shedding and stage 2 being adding solar panels to reduce grid consumption. Our household uses an average of 40kWh per day with the big culprits are the 2 geysers (we have 3 in total but 3rd is a gas geyser) and pool pump which runs for around 6-8 hours per day. Hi Chaps. Hope you are well. Guys,kindly please share some wisdom with me. I have a few NMC Lithium Batteries. Essentially an enclosure and cells, but no management system. Would you be able to recommend a supplier who could help out? They are 28 Cell units, but charge voltage ~56V , I am expecting that the internal configuration though is 14 pairs of 2 paralleled cells. I will need to physically inspect to confirm . So going solar really sparked my interest in electricity... i think i may have missed my trade. I had a router out in the field that was still connected to utility, so I converted it to have its own little battery backup. what i had to play with: 12v 7ah lead acid battery (sealed - the gate motor type), its an old battery that was replaced 12v battery chareger (it does not have built in over charge protection) tiny little 12/24v solar charge controller. Hi. Member for a while but this is my first post. I got a small system going at the beginning of the year to power up lights, TV etc during outages. Axpert 5Kva invertor, 9 panels and 8 x 102ah deep cycle batteries for the 48v ask. My issue is that despite the relatively low load of between 500 and 700 watt, the batteries simply does not last - sometimes not even the 2,5h loadshedding slots in Pretoria. Although I have forgotten most of my matric science lessons, this bank should last longer than what it does. The invertor manual supports this thought. Hi all, I am still in the learning phases with solar, as previously mentioned i run 2 5kw Mecer Axpert inverters with 24 Panels. With 2 strings of four 120AH omnipower 12V batteries. I want to upgrade my battery backup to go full off grid!!! My question is what size battery backup should i have (Ah) , and what type of batteries to go for!! To ensure longest lifetime on system, i assume the best would be to have enough backup to ensure only one cycle every 24hrs? With the current setup i still uses about 40kwh of electricity in 24hrs!! Hi all I have 2 pylontech US Plus batteries connected to my Infini inverter... been running for just over a year. Now I don't know if it is because of the last week of almost no sun but suddenly my inverter battery icon flashes empty and the batteries SOC lights are dead. For the last day or two the power keeps tripping and inverter shows error 02 saying DC bus voltage falls below the lower threshold. And it seems the batteries are not being charged via grid even thou I have this option selected in the inverter software. Has anyone experienced similar issues and is there an easy explanation? Would really appreciate your views.

Hello everyone I am currently on day 3 of very cloudy conditions and it is not forecast to change. I am fully offgrid with no utility power. I would like to charge my batteries with my generator (5kva), but I am unsure if I can just wire a lead from the generator into the AC input on the inverter and start up the generator, I have a axpert mecer 5kva inverter and plan to set charging limit to 20A for utility. I recently wanted to switch from propane augers to the electric ice auger. I saw DIY video on YouTube, but I don't know what battery to buy. What I need to consider its temperature resistance, power and life span, is there anything else? I saw a lot of packed batteries on amazon, and then I google "custom ice auger battery" and find this brand. Does anyone know before? Last question, this type of battery needs built-in BMS?

Could anyone advise me on settings for battery equalisation ? I have recently installed a Axpert 5 kW inverter with 6 PV panels and 4 x 200aH AGM batteries and I notice that the settings on the inverter as regards the battery equalisation is 'disabled' - is this correct? Setting 5 in WatchPower is set on AGM , and I have been lead to believe that battery equalisation is a good thing to do? Thank you

Hi All, interested to hear your experience if you are using Bluenova Lithium cells (especially if you have used for considerable time). I have had bad experiences with AGM cells and then VRLA cells. i am considering going to Bluenova in the hopes that it will be a reliable solution for a long time. Any comments would be appreciated.

There's no doubt that lea acid batteries are a cost effective battery technology and they will be around for a long time yet. However I don't see much discussion about (and what I reckon is a big disadvantage about lead acid batteries compared to Li-Ion) is their efficiency. As one gets involved with RE systems and trying to get better and better performance out of these systems efficiency plays a part in every department. Please Guide me. I have many 18650 cells which I want to test with IMAX Charger/Discharger. While Charging and specifically to test the mAh/power while discharging I have to connect a single cell. It is time consuming and I have to be attentive. To overcome this problem, I bought a black colour- simple battery holder for 4nos. 18650 cells, XT60 connector pair, 4S cable, 14AWG wire. I have 2 PT US3000's in a cabinet and I want to add another one. The problem is that I don't have space to stack the 3rd one on top of the other 2, so I need to put it next to each other. What is the maximum length of interconnect cables one can buy? I found a cable pack with 2m cables but is looks like the cables going to the inverter, not the interconnect set. Has anybody done this before?

I recently bought an electric bicycle. It has a 0.5kWh battery (Panasonic 36V LCM). According to the owners manual (to improve lifespan) I am supposed to fully drain the battery after every 15 charge cycles. Can anybody explain why this will be beneficial for the battery? Does it have anything to do with bottom balancing? I remember @plonkstermentioned in another post, that some BMS's have a bottom balancing feature.
