  1. Started by stuvo,

Are battery ring terminals and the like really necessary? It seems like twisted copper and a couple of flat washers should do the job just fine. Please crucify me now.

What do you all think of Lead crystal Batteries. So far they would be my battery of choice .

  3. So over the past few days i've been doing the dirty work, reading through pages and pages of information looking for some facts and of course information to better educate the folk on this forum as well as myself . I do want to mention that if you are considering buying lithium batteries please be careful about what you buy and make an educated decision based on pure information read the fine print. The battery packs ive been assembling use good cells that have a end of life or (EOL) of 80% retention or more after the stated 2000 cycles which in actual fact is more but will write another topic based on that . So what has end of life got to do with it you might be ask…

Good afternoon I see on the forum people are negative about silver calcium batteries. I am new to power storage so just some advice. what is wrong with them? I am looking at Bosch silver calcium because of the price. R1650 vs R3000 for gel. what would be the disadvantages of them?

Good day all. My solar system is 2 years old and I paid a high price for a software setup mistake. My batteries are shot and need to be replaced. System consist of the following: 1 x 5KVA Axpert Inverter, 3 x 300W Renesola solar panels and has 4 x 200AHr Vision Batteries (6FM200P-X)... 48V system. 1 x Battery Balancer Power consumption is low when on full load, about 700W - 1KW. Load consist of lights and power points for 3 rooms. 1. Which is the best batteries to replace the current ones with? Should I go 200AHr again or maybe something smaller 2. Is the Axpert a "Battery killer" as I heard from a salesman of another brand of inverters? Please as…

i have 4x250ah 12v sealed gel batteries [Gelled Thixotropic electrolyte] in series. they started working about may 2017. during december 2017 i noticed 1 battery [nearest to axpert 5kv] having 10.1v when charging whilst the other three were at 13.1v. i uncoupled all and switched to the grid whilst sorting the warranty issue. they say 'cause i tampered with the units [installing shunt for bmv702 which in effect changed the length of the cables] the warranty is void... so whilst i look at this warranty story - your comments are welcome - i need to get another unit as i don't really want to throw money into the bottomless pit called eskom. please assist presen…

So i was chatting to someone the other day that was convinced that PWM regulator killed his batteries, reason given was the spikes that gone into the bank directly from the panels. So yes, we know how PWM works and really it shouldn't be a problem unless your array and or bank is not appropriately sized, i mean the charge voltage has to be higher but how much is too much? i've always thought it would be good for the batteries to some extent, preventing sulfation and as long as there's no heat buildup or some internal arching i cant see a high voltage being an issue. He was complaining of spikes in the order of 20 volts. My thoughts at the time where that it will reach tha…

Hi Everyone. I would like advise as to the total inventory of item I should purchase for the successful deployment of a Victron BMV 702. I current have 4 ( 200Ah @ 12V ) batteries connected in series. I intend to double this configuration with identical equipment to the following final setup. (4 X (series) ( 200Ah @ 12V )) + (parallel) (4 X ( 200Ah @ 12V )) for a total capacity of 400Ah @ 48V. As well as the Victron battery monitor, the USB cable for connecting to a ICC powered Raspberry PI, is there additional equipment I should consider.

I would like to know if it is safe to pair AGM and Gel batteries. I recently built a string of 4 AGM batteries in series. A deal has come my way of 4 gel batteries I intend connect in another series string and connect in parallel with the AGMs if it is safe to do so.

I would like to know if Axpert inverters are compatible with batteries. I have gotten a good deal on a bunch of these but am not sure if Axpert understands and can handle them correctly.

Good morning! Just to introduce myself....... Charl from the Free State. I have a 5kVa Axpert running of 12 x 255W aray and 4x 230a raylights. In the process of doubling the system. All the items needed is in the store room.... now to find the time to install!! Yesterday I replaced the battery bank to find that is was only one battery that was the coulprit bringing the whole bank to its knees. Should have checked them beforehand....... but all good because I'm doubling anyway. Took the batteries off and checked the individual voltages of each. Three measured 13.3v and the one 8.8v. What would make such a battery to decide its time to say good bye? So will r…

I have been asked to start a lithium batteries thread. Unlike lead acid my lithium experience is limited to the last month which hardly qualifies me as someone to start something like this. I however do like information catalogued so that I can refer back to it easily so on that basis I plough ahead and hope this thread develops into a resource with many contributors. I will use lead acid batteries (LA) as a reference point and assume that folk are familiar with them. What is Lithium? It is the 3rd lightest element and those of you who were the chemistry teacher nemesis at school will know it is highly reactive in both water and air and is usually stored in a …

Hi Guys I will really appreciate it if the forum members could give me an idea on how many of you are currently interested in HA-02's or 2*HA-02's. As I do this as a non-profit service to forum members, I would like to place an order more or less for the correct quantities. The Chinese will stop "suiping" on Monday and I would be able to get the order going. I just need to get an estimate of the current intrest as I am prepared to carry a certain level of stock for the members Many thanks

  15. this issue has probably been discussed before but I could not find an answer. to achieve equal voltage on all batteries in a series string is it possible to interconnecting them in parallel? What are the pros and cons?

Does this happen with batteries commonly used in PV installations? ICV's could approach the critical point where a cell voltage reversal would occur, causing all other cells to charge that cell causing near instantaneous hydrogen gassing and explosion.

Good Morning I was working on my PC this morning when I heared a shot go off in the house (I was convinced a firearm was involved), but the thing is, I don't have any.. So after a few seconds of thinking I thought the only other thing that could make that kind of noise is my Inverters... but the power is still on... so it cant be my inverters, can it? Went to the inverter/battery room and when i entered i could not breath from all the gasses and the smell told my its got something to do with a battery. Gave it some time to extract the gasses and guess what i found...... This is a second hand Royal I bought from someon…

Hello, I have a system consisting of 16 x 320W panels; 16 x 100AH Vision batteries (data sheet attached) and 2 x 5000VA Axpert inverters. I also have a victron battery monitor. I know that the 4 strings of batteries is not ideal - it is result of upgrades. My system has been running since Feb 2017. I am 'close' to running off-grid. I have not been having a good experience with the batteries. I replaced 3 of them a few months ago. I have now had to exchange another 4. Not a good record! And the results are still not desirable (battery monitor still showing up to 2% deviation at times). I only discharge to about 75% on most days. I set the charge current…

Hi guys, I want to tickle your brains, maybe it will help me, I have these batteries for approx 2 years now and so far they working good, only bad thing happend they were drained until 21.4v (3-4 times in June this year) I was not at home and was completely offgrid, but that was my previous setup on my Powerstar IR 3000,but they were still good and bulk charging was at 29.2 and float was at 27.4 (that was the setting on inverter AGM 2) The batteries cycle use is 14.6V - 14.8V (25`c) Standby use is 13.6 - 13.8V (25`c) Tesuco RA12-200 [D,12V200AH/10HR My new setup I have finished last weekend, replace almost everything except batteries and panels …

  23. Mainly directed at @plonkster With the distributed voltage and current control enabled in my Venus GX with 2.12.17 I am seeing a strange See Saw pattern of the battery terminal voltage - probably because BYD has some hysteresis built in for charge and do not charge values and the Venus + Quattro internal circuits slowly drains the BYD dopping terminal voltage over 3-4 hours from 57 V to 54.8 before the charger switches on briefly and brings it back to 57 V and stops charging ON previous logic with Quattro in control the battery terminal voltage remained on 55.2 Any method using dbus to monitor the Allow to charge contacts status to…

anybody played around with lipo batteries , I am wanting to make a low tech pet project , a small battery back up that can be charged using grid (maybe old laptop charger)and or solar. something like a powerbank but with 12v as well. I can get 18650 bats from china town fair cheap .Yes I know I could make it from 7ah gate motor type bats but. I want to put in a usb port, 12v output to run some led lights ( whos voltage seem to be quite flexible) solar panel(s) charging port .voltmeter I've seen a couple of vids on you tube but the charging voltages are obviously different and 12v seems just awkward but 24v fits into a more flexible area esp since I h…

  25. Good Day All, Hope someone can shed some light? I have 8X Trojan T105RE Batteries (48V - Just under a year old) connected to my Axpert MKS 5KVA Inverter. Lately i have noticed it didn't go to Float and although the AMPS drop to about 6/7amps it never goes to float (54V) I topped up all the batteries 3 days ago and set the inverter to not use the batteries so it can charge constantly. 3 days passed now and it is still sitting on 58.8V and arround 6/7amps charge? Any ideas why?
