CoCT took out my old prepaid meter ( with an isolater switch for the three phases AND neutral ), the split meaning the key pad is a separate unit that can be plugged into any outlet that is NOT on the essentials circuit. My question is that now, there are the three circuit breakers for each phase, but nothing on the neutral wire, meaning the neutral bar is directly connected to the grid. is this standard operating procedure, is it safe ??

I would just like to confirm wire sizing for my battery. I am used to aviation specs where the minimum wire size for 200A would be 110mm^2... But I see the inverter manual says 55mm^2 and the SANS spec seems to say this is OK. But you are still looking at 50W loss into the cable at max draw. 55mm^2 is obviously a lot easier (readily available cable and lugs) - and obviously guaranteed to fit in the inverter cable glands. What is the general feeling about battery cable sizes?

I currently have a AC/DC changeover switch installed, one of those 3 position centre off ones. I do not like it much and purchased a similar Hager one which I've not installed as yet. I am away from home most of the time and my wife has a really tough time throwing the AC/DC switch, it requires a fair bit of effort. I was wondering if the rotary style switches would be easier to operate. Any recommendations on a rotary type switch would be appreciated as well.

One thing I'm wondering about is where to use CBs vs actual fuses - I am fairly sure fuse is needed on battery, but is it needed on PV as well? Or will CBs do for PV? Battery-positive to EasySolar-II 100-125A DC Midi fuse for battery (Victron Wiring Unlimited claims slow blow for DC...?) + fuse holder - should be fast blow? (F or preferably FF) Am using 35mm / AWG 2 with a rating of 105-120A (48V 240Ah battery). So an 80-100A fuse should work for battery @ ~80% of cable ampacity rating. Better to go 100A as it is a ve…

Hi guys, Everybody seems to protect the DC side of their installations (battery to inverter and PV to inverter) with fuses rather than circuit breakers... I know fuses generally interrupt the flow of power quicker than a CB - is this a requirement / preferred on the DC side? Any other reason why fuses are preferred over CB's? Cheers, Markus

So what I think I need is a KVW switch? Preferably a 3-way one. But when I shop/google for such devices I get confused. They mostly seem to have a VGA port and a single type b USB connector per computer. So do I put a USB hub on the "device" side that is connected to a keyboard and a mouse? New to the forums but not that new to solar. just wanted to know if anyone has experience with the Phocos 5kva Anygrid Hybrid inverter with either pylon tech batteries or dyness powerbox 9.6kw battery. My concern is the comms cable between inverter and battery as they don’t seem to be speaking to each other properly and unfortunately the cable manufactured by Phocos for pylon is not available with my dealer (Zambia). Battery SOC shows full but phocos inverter triggers the error 04 quite early. I’m sure the comms cable should enhance the communication between the two. I have a few old, discontinued, CBI EL breakers that is starting to fail. They are DIN rail and the current replacement part is the QF14CD units which works great but is pricey. What is considered to be a high quality EL unit these days? Hager and ABB are both cheaper than the CBI unit and takes less space so it's something I am considering. I got one of these to attach to the VenusGX as I want to control when my Hot Water Geyser comes on. Any tips to wiring it up? From what I can tell I need to use a 12V Power supply connected inline with the Venus relay. When the Venus relay is activated the 12V will activate the solid state relay and vice versa. Anything else I need to do? I tried a test run and it all worked fine except when the Venus relay was OFF the 12V power supply was making a clicking sound over and over.

Hey all, As I have some time to burn with the lockdown, I'm busy setting up my PV panels on our tiled roof. At the moment I'm busy with all the brackets. So far so good ... all pretty straight forward stuff. I'm planning ahead, and I'm trying to work out the best way to handle all the strings that need to come down from the panels. Around the whole roof we have a gutter and all the gear is located 2 stories below in the garage, so I'm kinda limited to take things into the roof. I’m having an issue with one of my strings. I keeps blowing a fuse once every 3 weeks or so. It’s done this 3 times I have 6X 290w panels 3S2P on that line. and therefore should only be getting a max of 20amps. However I’m blowing a 30amp fuse. Now I have another string of 6 panels facing the same way wired exactly the same and its fuse never blows. Today when the fuse blew my solar was putting out 88v and 2880w from 15 panels which should equate to around 13amps on that string. In the past when I’ve replaced the fuse I’ve tested the current draw on each of my strings and all the numbers and where what they supposed to be. Any ideas?

Can one lay the EzMeter cable (between Smartmeter and inverter) in the same conduit as the AC cable, or should one rather separate? Fact that the Ezmeter is generally installed inside an AC DB-Board makes me think it should be fine, but I remember someone saying one could lay such comms cables together with DC cables (thereby inferring that they shouldn't be mixed with AC cables?)

Hi again So my brother wants to hook up his 24V 2000VA UPS to a pair of 12V 18Ah batteries, but the batteries dont fit in the UPS case. He's decided to put it next to the UPS in a plastic container, running the cables through the side of the UPS. Now the Question: An electrical friend of mine can give me 3m of 15mm welding cabling and 16x6mm lugs with heatshrink to match. Will the cable work for connecting the batteries to the UPS if I connect the UPS cables to these welding cables using Brad Harrison 50amp plugs? -G-

Hi there. Currently i have 4x 335 panels in a 2x2 configuration. These panels are connected to 6mm2 cable going throught a dc disconnect to my inverter I am going to add 5 more panels and change the system to a 3x3 configuration. my inverter can handle max 145v OC my question. A 6mm2 cable can carry 42A if it is a single cable. does that mean that 2x 6mm2 (single red and single black) will be able to carry 84A?? Ultimately i will have 3 runs of 6mm2 cable from the panels to a combiner with fuses about 1m from the inverter and then run a single cable to the inverter. but due to cost constraints i cant afford all the stuff i need to do this right now …

I've embarked on phase 1 of my project, batteries (Pylontech) and Inverter (Axpert King 5K) but I'm having real trouble finding an online store for ordering my sundries:Fuses, breakers, new Distribution board, etc. I've tried now for weeks to-and-fro with ACDC.co.za after them not activating my account (even though the activation email was received) to the site now not displaying prices when I'm logged in.
