Inverters

Off Grid & Grid Tie inverters

  1. Started by TrevorD,

Hi. I have an Axpert VMIII 5KW and WatchPower v1.13SP3 working via an extended RS232 cable to a serial port card on a Windows 10 PC. I've tried upgrading to WatchPower v1.14SP8 (and 2 others) but I get no comms. The Com. port and Mobus settings are the same as the working v1.13. Anyone have any ideas please or a recommendation for a better monitoring software that works with the VMIII? Thanks, Trevor.

  2. Hi, I have a single Sunsynk 5.5 inverter and a single Hubble AM2 battery (no PV) purely for minimizing impact of loadshedding. It's currently running in AGM% mode since I'm still waiting on the Canbus cable to be installed. Can someone please supply me with the correct inverter settings for this use case? I would like to double check the values programmed by the installer since last night I only lasted an hour during loadshedding with very few appliances on in the house. The battery also charges at about 1% per hour which is ridiculous. I have reason to believe my battery may have been exporting to the grid during loadshedding. How can I double chec…

  3. Started by Brettsco,

I have three SunSynk 8KW inverters. They are running independently. One for each phase of my home. I then have a 5.12KWh SunSynk battery per inverter/phase. These can only discharge at about 2.5KW. Currently there is one battery per inverter. Can I create a bank using the three batteries and connect this bank to each inverter? In theory the bank could then discharge at 7.5Kw. If this is possible how does charging of the batteries work? Do all three inverters charge the bank or is this left to only one device?

Hi, Thank you for welcoming me into your group. My name is Gianni and I am writing to you from Sardinia (Italy) sorry for my English but I am forced to use Google translator. I have been an installer of photovoltaic systems since 2007, and I have more than 500 PV systems installed connected to the electricity grid. For about 3 years I have also dedicated myself to stand-alone systems, the inverters I am installing carry the Advance, Genius brand, etc. but they all seem to be produced by the same company and seeing your (much used) Axpert Charger I believe they are the same product . I am attaching some photos for your confirmation, thank you in advance, then I will explain…

  5. Experiencing communication problems between an Axpert VM3 5K and the new pylontech 3000C batteries. Previously had the 3000B batteries and there were no issues. Any advice?

My 5kva Axpert clone died last night. We were on grid power at night time so no PV in. I got a beep no error code and I could smell burning electronics. After turning everything off, I checked the battery voltage (good 50V) and tried to turn the inverter back on. The 3 front indicator lights all flashed rapidly in sync. This was accompanied by a rapid clicking noise (relay?). My plan is to just take it to a local electronic tech and see if they can find a damaged component unless someone has a better idea. The item is less than two years old.

IMEON Manager I was wondering if anyone is able to send me the link to download Imeon Manager software. I have looked everywhere and am unable to find it on the net. The URL supplied in the user manual takes me to a page where there is just an image and no download.... I’m wanting to connect via USB as I don’t have a Wi-Fi module for the inverter. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

  8. Hi all, I'm new to the forums, as well as to inverters and batteries in general, so I really hope that you will be able to guide me before I mess something up. A little more than a year ago, I purchased an RCT-Axpert 1K (24V) inverter, along with 2 x OmniPower 120 Ah batteries, which are connected in series to provide 24V. I know its not the best by any stretch of the imagination, but to me it was quite a lot of money and seemed that it should fit my needs, at the time. I have no solar panels at the moment, even though my goal is to eventually add one or two panels to start generating a little bit of my own power. The inverter acts like a UPS at the moment, charging …

I had my inverter installed about 2 weeks ago in grid tied mode and everything was working fine. I then decided to add a battery, which I did. Currently I'm not using the load and aux ports. I have underfloor heating installed, but it uses normal plug points. I can't really isolate the underfloor heating plugs at the db board but I don't want them to be on during loadshedding. Is there a way of telling is there is loadshedding Using the inverter so that I can maybe use smart switches to turn underfloor heating off? How can I solve this issue?

  10. Working on a system with 3 x 5kVA Axperts (Mk1) in parallel. System recently developed an issue where the inverters do not display the master/slave indication. The section in the middle of the LCD where this is displayed is blank for all three inverters. Paralleling and current share cables are all connected and plugged in. Anybody seen this problem before?

  11. Hi all I am in the process of upgrading my system from older Axperts to the 8kW Sunsynk and adding some more panels. Am planning to install 3 strings, each facing a different direction. 2 of the strings will be connected to the MPPTs of the Sunsynk, the 3rd to a Victron MPPT that I already have in my systems. My question is how to best integrate the Victron MPPT with the Sunsynk? Currently the MPPT is connected to a DC bus bar together with the Pylontechs and the Battery-In of the Axperts. Do I keep it that way or can I connect the MPPT on the Generator Input of the Sunsynk? What would be advantages/disadvantages? If I keep the Victron MPPT connec…

Hi, I have a Sunsynk 5.5kW installed, coupled with a 5.5kW solar array and 10.2kW of battery storage. I will add my diesel generator as an alternative input for those days when eskom is awol and when the batteries are low. I have a question about the control logic for the gen input on the Sunsynk inverter, as the manual is not very descriptive and Keith's videos does not really explain this feature in detail. From what I could gather so far: 1. The Gen start signal will only activate when no grid is available and when the SOC lower limit has been reached 2. The Gen input relay will only close once the conditions are met in point 1. 3. When th…

Hi, I figured before I confirm which inverter I purchase. I'd ask around here from the experts. I am not so interested in battery run operations currently and use about 1000kwh per month. I've had sensors on my appliances for many months and want to go solar purely for a cost savings exercise to power these appliances during the day -geyser -pool pump -fridge -internet fiber etc. Also interested in pushing some back to the grid while I still can (Tshwane wants to switch everyone to smart meters on the next two years. options on inverters I've looked at include the - axpert king and -infinisolar e5.5 But th…

I'm not sure if I have a faulty unit... Because of roof space we installed 2x rows of solar on the roof PV1: 5x panels PV2: 4x panels Originally they were all going to be in series with one set of PV cables, now there are 2x sets coming from the roof and onto PV1 and PV2 respectively. Both sets give proper voltage (at +/- 8am 170V & 180V) When I connect PV1 to PV1 on the inverter it reads PV1: 170V PV2: 5V When I connect PV1 to PV2 on the inverter it reads PV1: 5V PV2: 170V When I connect PV2 to PV1 on the inverter it reads PV1: 180V PV2: 5V When I conn…

  15. Recently, when i did the last part of my install, running and installing the grid feed cabling, i noticed that one of my inverters actually puts power on the grid feed connector when the inverter is turned on and no grid power is applied. I disconnected this one out of the curciut and the other 4 inverters worked perfectly fine. This one went in for repairs and a few days later (today) it came back to me. The repairer replaced the controller board and at first glance all seemed in order. However.... It is never that simple. The first thing i did with power up (DC batteries only) was to check the settings match the other inverters. This is where things st…

  17. Hi all, Last night my 24V Mecer/Axpert 3kVA (SOL-I-AX-3MPLUS24) popped while charging from mains. I known my batteries desperately need to be replaced, and last night the voltage was dipping quite low, even with only a couple of amps being used. So I plugged it into the mains to charge the battery and as usual the fans spun up and about 20 amps was being pushed into the batteries. A minute or two into charging I started to hear a slight buzzing should along with the fan noise that I had never heard before. Then pop, a flash came out of the right-hand side on the inverter and the trip switch for the plug tripped. However the unit didn't turn off and didn't s…

Is the pv switch on the inverter an isolater, or do we still need to install an additional isolater?

I have a 5 kW Sunsynk hybrid inverter, I have pushed the total AC load to around 6 kW, but the inverter itself never goes over 4998 watts, which is obviously the most the inverter can push thru and the rest comes from the grid. The way I understand how a hybrid system works, imagine a stream feeding into a river, the stream is the inverter and the river is the grid, so the size of the river does not matter to the stream, it can only feed in what it’s width and depth will allow. So my question is, what is PASS THROUGH current

  20. I have an AfriSolar inverter (I think it is a rebranded Axpert inverter). I'm just using it for backup power for a borehole pump. No PV installed, only batteries. The issue I'm having is that the Eskom supply voltage fluctuates between 242V and 248V, but the borehole pump can only support up to 240V (according to Franklin). I have had to replace 2 pumps in 7 months now as they burnt out, and according to Franklin it was due to too high voltage. Eskom also says they won't reduce it as other users will complain. I want the inverter to reduce the output Voltage to 230V even when grid is present, so for example 242V in, 230V out. Currently when there is grid power it jus…

  21. Can anyone confirm whether the SUb output priority setting on their "Off Grid" inverter gives priority to solar power instead of using the grid as stated in the SUb definition, especially when the battery is fully charged? I have searched high and low and some sellers even claim that it can do this in their Q&A but then others say that it can not. The purpose of the SUb would be to maximize the power from the solar (free), minimize the power from the utility (not free) and only use battery as a backup (load shedding/reduction). Anyone that can test this or knows for a fact?

Good afteroon. I did an istallation for 2 clients of us, they are using the Renewable Technolohies inverters ( RENTEC), it's a 5KW inverter. The inverter works fine but when it runs on batteries it does not switch over to utility to charge the batteries. What can i do to remedy this problem. BR Johan

Hey all Is anyone else running a 3D printer on their solar setup? I have an Axpert Clone 5KVA 4kw inverter and a Tevo Flash 3D Printer with AC Heatbed. The problem I'm having is the heatbed is causing the fluorescent lights in the house and garage to flicker, only when on battery mode and solar mode. On bypass it doesnt flicker and also when bypassing the inverter entirely it doesnt flicker. Any idea what could be causing this, I'm assuming the inverter is not liking the AC heatbed. 25. So, was looking at my inverters historical data on Solarman and noticed something. I thought that Production + Energy Purchased would = Consumption in the historical data on Solarman. But it doesn't, in this case consumption - 55.1kw/hr, production - 43.9kw/hr and 14.1kw/hr - purchased from the grid. Anyone have any idea what happened to the missing 2.9kw/hr, battery efficiency loss perhaps?
