Inverters

Off Grid & Grid Tie inverters

  1. the SolaX inverters seem pretty cool.... http://solaxpower.com/ What I like about them is that they are a sort-of Grid-Tie, supplying your house load. This means the inverter sits in parallel to the load, and not all the load is driven through the inverter... So no matter how much load your house has, what you have as excess PV energy is pumped into your house load... that means the inverter does not have to be rated at your house load.. It then also and EPS that will feed the Emergency circuits when the Grid drops... Unfortunately this seems to be a physical device switch from what I can tell.. apparently takes about 5 seconds, so your load will still have a …

My solar system was installed in March 2016. It consists of 10 x 300W panels, 12 x 12V 102 Amp batteries and an Axpert 5 KVA hybrid inverter. The installer is a building contractor who is a sort of Jack of all trades. He conducted an investigation beforehand to measure peak usage at my home. Together with our converted-to-solar geyser there is a reduced electricity usage of 60% plus. The installer has been back to my home on many an occasion to tweak the system but we are experiencing problems that he seems unable to fix. Our problem is that the mains switch falls when too many appliances that consume a lot of electricity are switched on simultaneously. The geyser is on f…

Hi, I've been approached by my retired-parents with regards to becoming Eskom independent or semi-independent. My knowledge of going solar is very limited to what I've researched and read up on on this forum They want to go Solar during the day, with Eskom at night (for now) with the option of going completely offgrid later (if/when battery prices drop to affordability). I guess the preferred usage would be solar during the day, Eskom at night and later on in life solar during the day, batteries until optimal DoD and then Eskom if the sun's not up by then. Being pensioners, their needs are very basic i.t.o electrical usage (geyser, vacu…

  4. Hi. I've recently found http://aicc.org.za/ website and the forum. I'm seaching a software that will be able to communicate with Voltronic mks 2k4 plus inverter off grid in order to get graphs, statistics, cloud services,... The same that website offers more or less. I've read it works with Voltronic axpert mks 3 and 5 KVA inverters but I don't now it it is also possible with 2k4 plus inverter. So I was wondering if this software could communicate with the inverter I've wrote before. It is possible? Thank you in advance.

Hi all, As usual, things are still a bit messy and wires run all over the place, but basic proof of concept works perfectly. The small Multiplus feeds into the grid perfectly and (very importantly) it does NOT trip the Conlog BEC23 prepaid meter. I tried a few different loads. Microwave oven, kettle, hair dryer. The Carlo Gavazzi current sensor shows spikes of up to 1kw going back into the grid when the kettle clicks off, but it looks as if the inverter overcompensates when it backs off so that helps to get a lower average. In addition, I can also set a limit on the load, so it will attempt to zero the meter only up to a certain maximum value. I can set it …

OK so my inverter just blew up. We had a major storm here in Pretoria. The water really came down in our area. So hard that the roof where my inverter is mounted could not carry the water. The water then came down the walls and right through the inverter. Boom and that is that. My kit is insured. So now to look for a new inverter that does not have any fans and can grid tie.

Anyone here worked or know of someone with an Ingeteam inverter? Yay or nay product?

  9. Hi there all, First post on the forum - Been a member for some time, but Ive mostly been lurking around benefitting from the wealth of info available here. This is a great place if you need some guidance or info, and has been incredibly useful for my projects. I embarked on going off-grid with the bulk of my household around 18 months ago. Things drew to a close in February, but as you'll know - there is always room for improvement on these projects. In short my setup consists of the following: backbone is a 5kVA Victron Quattro being fed from a 660AH 48v traction/forklift battery bank. Solar input is provided by an AC-coupled SMA with 3.8kWp install…

Hi folks. I was wondering if anyone has an idea where the parallel board of the 5kW/10kW unit attaches to the MCU/FPGA that drives those units and if it would be possible to do the same on the smaller 3kW unit? I'm from OZ, Far North Queensland. Regards, JTS

Good day chaps! My google-fu has failed me, can someone please assist me with this silly little question... The manual states that the inverter is only compatible with "single-crystalline, polycrystalline and CIGS solar panels". Why not monocrystalline? Is it a silly chinglish translation mistake or will mono's really do damage? I can't see why it would but some clarification would be nice!

Hi all We have installed a Inifini 10kw as per CreoVision"s "infini 10kW Modbus Grid Limiting Installation Guide" Thanks to Peter for his hard work. However we are experiencing a Caution / Fault in the event log (no electrical ground) [19] As soon as the AC breaker on the inverter is switched on the Ground fault [19] appears and the inverter goes into a fault mode Our electrician has tested the earth/grounding and is getting around 10-15 ohms. Has any one experienced this issue and or can help in CT? Thanks.

  13. Hi everyone, I am looking at purchasing one of the Infinisolar units, and looking at pricing online, came across 3 units that all looks to be similar, but with big price differences: Soltra model @ R 13 509:http://powermode.co.za/soltra-gtb3000-3kw-hybrid-solar-inverter/?gclid=CjwKEAjwwOvABRC08aedoZ_lnTMSJACs_cbucdTcjkB2HlB2Iib8UbWD4cOx7pAe7MVBgr2nR-rDTBoCnB_w_wcB Replus model @ R 15 560.89: http://www.bonanzatech.co.za/index.php?controller=product&id_product=8220 Voltronic model @ R 18 117.79 http://www.bonanzatech.co.za/index.php?id_product=7894&controller=product Anyone have experience with the Replus and Soltra models?

Hi all Anyone else experiencing CRC mismatch every so often on their Axpert Inverter? That is, the data I get back has a CRC mismatch. So the Axpert will respond with data that looks correct, however the last part (CRC part) is wrong. Starting to wonder if it is the firmware or the cable or the serial port converter. I'm thinking I should put a device between the Axpert and my software to capture the raw serial data to see what's up. However when I look at the raw data my computer receives over serial, it does show the CRC is a mismatch. So I highly doubt it is my software. I'm pretty sure this didn't used to happen... But now I'm unsure

Hi all, So I have been busy. Very busy... First of all - this is by no means meant to be competition to Jdp. I have no intent to out try him at his software. By the looks of things he has a lot of very complicated things in mind that I do not such as home automation. That being said this is my take on things and I would really like to hear what everyone thinks. It is written in C# and uses SQL Express. It stores all data every 5 sec and also creates daily, monthly, and annual tables. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FiBDnjGH5Oc Let me know your thoughts? Ed

Please help! We have upgraded our batteries on our solar system 4 months ago. Currently having 9 x 300w panels and 12 sonic gel 100ah batteries. We've noticed that our average night time usage was 300w/h more than before. This morning we switched everything of in the house exept the inverter. On the efergy meter it still showed 330w. After shutting the inverter down, the watts went down to 0watts. Why is the inverter using so much power? It wasn't like this before with the old batteries. We are using much more units per day now with 12 gel batteries, than with the previous 8 stride 105ah batteries. It doesn't make sense.

Took the plunge on the next test unit, picking up a 5kw plus tomorrow to start testing.Must check if Jdp's software will work with it... it can handle 10kw of pv, but i am starting with 6.6kw i have on the roof. will post some pics once running. It can be paralleled up to 6 times and has 2 x MPPT's on board

If I switch off the charger on my 5 Kva Victron Multiplus it is unable to asses the battery state therefore I don't seem able to get my setup to operate solar/battery first before mains It seems to want to operate in a UPS manner instead of giving me max solar/battery

How to trouble shoot inverter in presenceof faulty situation.

  22. Hi! I got the question, if it is possible, to use the infini inverter to charge the batteries via grid only - no PV is connected to this system? Because there is already an old classic inverter in this house, power gets delivered to grid. The infini should read how much gets delivered (consumption mode) and use this delta to charge the batteries. Goal is, to have zero consumption (as good as possible). If I read the setup possibilities of SolarPower carfully, I guess this should be possible. Anyone who can answer this?

Hi everbody! The local installer is not able to fix the following problem: Installed are 24x1500Ah batteries PowerSave OPzV (48V), 2 Apert 5kVA inverters in parallel mode (master and salve) and a diesel generator of 7kVA. The generator currently is connected to only one inverter (from both, as, i hoped, that it would work with only one) The problem is that when the generator starts (manually, later automatically by the Victron Batt Monitor) it does not get connected to the Axpert charging function. The Axpert Display shows the AC input but no line to the inverter: It recognizes the AC current, but ??? See attached foto. The PDF attached contains…

  24. Hi guys. Problem: The UPS seems to charge the batteries too quickly. Detail: This is a 3KVA Alfa P-3000/24 UPS with two 12Volt DC batteries (a total of 24 volts). If batteries are discharged to 30-35% (on load voltage 20.x Volts, UPS reading 22.26Volts), it seems to charge the batteries in almost about 10 minutes (voltmeter:24.5 Volts, UPS reading: 27.xVolts) Batteries are "Lead Acid water maintainable batteries" but the settings in the UPS are for AGM as default. I dont understand the difference and need advice. The only other options are Flooded or User. Questions/Suspicion: Obviously this cannot be right. Furthermore, even after having the b…
